Chris Gotterup won the Waste Management Phoenix Open 2026 on Sunday. The 26-year-old closed the final round with a flourish of five birdies in six holes to finish with a 7-under 64 at TPC Scottsdale. The Sony Open in Hawaii winner clinched his second PGA Tour victory of the season and bagged the winner’s paycheck of $1.73 million from the $9.6 million purse.
Gotterup made a late leap to take the one-shot advantage away from Hideki Matsuyama. He took on the Japanese star in a playoff and came out victorious. Following the win, the Oklahoma native fought back tears and said he’s “having such a good time playing right now.” Apart from the paycheck, the champion golfer also banked 500 FedExCup points.
Meanwhile, Matsuyama conceded loss while making his third playoff appearance at TPC Scottsdale. He’d had earlier recoded two wins at the event, beating Rickie Fowler and Webb Simpson in 2016 and 2017, respectively. Matsuyama banked $1,046,400 after finishing runnder-up in the contest.
It is pertinent to note that event favorite Scottie Scheffler finished T3 alongside likes of Akshay Bhatia, Michael Thorbjornsen, Nicolai Højgaard and Si Woo Kim. They returned with $439,680 each. Jake Knapp and Matt Fitzpatrick finished eighth and ninth to bank $300,000 and $280,800 respectively, while Viktor Hovland, Pierceson Coody and Ryo Hisatsune shared T10. They added $242,400 to their earnings.
