Tiger Woods has a legendary career that includes two wins at the Players Championship. His first Players win happened in 2001, when he finished with a total score of 14 under par, only one shot ahead of the field. Interestingly, Woods has had perfect momentum in the tournament since Round 3 from the par-3 Hole 17.

Hole 17 at the TPC Sawgrass is highly regarded around the world as one of the most difficult and game-changing holes for the Players Championship. The hole is surrounded by water bodies, so it requires not only a specific quantity of power but also remarkable precision. Tiger Woods faced the difficult hole head-on at the 2001 Players Championship and went on to create a memorable moment in the game.

Woods was 60 feet away from the hole and needed to cover the entire green in order to make a birdie. He had to make an extraordinarily tough putt that required a left-to-right break. Despite everything, the legendary golfer demonstrated his actual brilliance by shooting the ball directly into the hole, prompting Gary Koch to yell, “Better than most.”

The Players Championship honoured this moment during the 25th anniversary of it as they wrote “Better than most” along with Tiger Woods 2001 in the putt of Hole 17. TWLegion even posted about it on their X account, sharing a photo of the putt with fans. The caption on this post said,

“🚨🕳️🐅 #BETTER THANK MOST — A special hole commemorating the 25th anniversary of Tiger Woods’ historic putt at the 2001 PLAYERS Championship has been put in play today at TPC Sawgrass in the exact same location.”

Woods is currently out of the game while he recovers from back surgery, but his comeback is imminent, as he has teased multiple times.

Will Tiger Woods play in the 2026 Masters?

Tiger Woods stunned the world earlier this season at the 2026 Genesis Invitational by confirming his belief that the 2026 Masters is an event in which he can compete. Interestingly, there are only four weeks until the competition at Augusta National, but Woods has yet to participate in any other event for practice for the first golf major.

This week, Woods also missed the Cologuard Classic, leaving him with only one Seniors Tour tournament left before the Masters, the Hoag Classic. TWLegion discussed this in an X post, highlighting

“🚨Tiger Woods did NOT enter next week’s Cologuard Classic on the Champions Tour, leaving just one possible senior tour event prior to Augusta (The Hoag Classic). Still TBA if he will play the TGL semifinals match on Tuesday. Tiger remains in the field at The Masters and has not been added to the past champions not playing list.”

Woods has teased that his return can occur on any tour (the Seniors or the PGA), as certainty is not clear till now.
