Victor Perez started off the LIV Golf transfers ahead of the 2026 with his move from PGA Tour at the end of last year. The Frenchman signed for Martin Kaymer’s Cleeks GC after two full seasons on the American circuit. The golfer has since revealed that his former tour’s ‘constant change’ was a leading reason for his transfer.
Perez, speaking two weeks ahead of his projected LIV Golf debut at Riyadh, said he sought out a move to LIV Golf after becoming frustrated with PGA decisions. The 33-year-old revealed he asked for a move to the Saudi-backed league as he struggled with the circuit’s ‘goalposts kept moving.’ The World No.136 golfer, who took a crack at the PGA Tour in 2023 via the DP World Tour’s dual-card opportunity, also criticized the ‘lack of transparency’ in the series’ matters.
Victor Perez said, as quoted by Golf Monthly:
“In my last few years in America, I’ve been playing fine, I would say. I’ve played an OK level, I wouldn’t say it’s been top form but it’s been fine. I’ve struggled a lot more with the fact that… I use the analogy that the goalposts keep moving where there are constant changes and there are new rules and there are new events and the points distribution is different.
I think when you come from a place where you picture it as like the top of the pyramid and then my team and I have been quite disappointed with the lack of transparency and the difficulties of getting comfortable with the PGA Tour and everything that comes with it. And so we were kind of looking for different options.”
Victor Perez hints at more PGA Tour-LIV Golf transfers
Interestingly, Victor Perez went on to claim that more PGA Tour pros are watching LIV Golf’s growth. His comment comes as confirmations of some big transfers to and from the rival tour come out. It is pertinent to note that PGA regular Byeong Hun An was the latest to join the breakaway tour while Brooks Koepka went the other way and re-joined the American circuit.
Perez added:
“I think everybody, if they’re honest, is keeping an eye on what the league is doing and everyone else is looking at what the tours are doing because you have friends that have gone to the league or stayed on the PGA Tour or DP World Tour. Everybody is checking scores, it’s all over social media and whatnot.”
For the unversed, Perez added that his move to LIV was also inspired by the vacancy left on Martin Kaymer’s Cleeks GC after Frederik Kjettrup’s relegation. The Frenchman stated that the outgoing golfer’s void in the team was inspiring for him.
He stated ‘texting’ Kaymer and asking if he could take the open spot for the 2026 season instead of attempting promotion via different methods like some of his former European tour rivals.
