Patrick Reed is still serving a suspension from the PGA Tour, but that will not stop him from playing in a Tour linked event this summer.
According to bunkered.co.uk, Reed will be allowed to compete in the Genesis Scottish Open in July. The tournament is co sanctioned by the PGA Tour and DP World Tour which means Reed can tee it up through his DP World Tour membership despite his PGA Tour ban running until late August.
The Scottish Open would be Reed’s first appearance in a PGA Tour affiliated event since The Memorial Tournament in 2022, which came just before he left to join LIV Golf.
Reed recently confirmed he would not renew his LIV Golf contract for the 2026 season and plans to return to the PGA Tour once his suspension ends. Unlike Brooks Koepka, Reed was not eligible for the Returning Members Program because he has not won a major or The Players Championship since 2022. His lone major victory remains the 2018 Masters.
He had originally been listed to play in the Scottish Open back in 2022 but was removed from the field after signing with LIV Golf. Four years later he now looks set to return at the same event.
The July start could also play an important role in Reed’s strong run on the DP World Tour this season.
As an honorary lifetime member of the DP World Tour Reed has committed to a full schedule and has already produced impressive results. He finished 26th at the Dubai Invitational, won the Hero Dubai Desert Classic and placed second at the Bahrain Championship. He is also tied for the lead after the opening round of this week’s Qatar Masters.
Those performances have pushed Reed to 1,674.70 points in the Race to Dubai standings putting him in a strong early position. A top 10 finish in the Race to Dubai at the end of the season will earn one of the PGA Tour cards available for 2027. With his current form, Reed is also in contention for the season-long title.
Patrick Reed is expected to become fully eligible for regular PGA Tour events again in September with the Biltmore Championship Asheville likely to be his first official start back on Tour.
Patrick Reed makes a strong start at Qatar Masters
Patrick Reed stayed in form on the DP World Tour with an impressive start at the Qatar Masters on Thursday. The American shot a seven under par 65 at Doha Golf Club, putting himself joint top of the leaderboard alongside Australia’s Daniel Hillier after the opening round.
It continues a strong run for Reed, who was recently involved in a playoff at the Bahrain Championship before slipping out with a bogey on the first extra hole.
Speaking after his round, Reed sounded confident about where his game stands.
“We’re definitely enjoying it a lot right now,” he told the DP World Tour after round one. The game feels solid I feel like a lot of the work we’ve done in the off-season has really stuck and it’s gone pretty well.”
“At this point we’re just riding the confidence allowing ourselves to go out there and just play a little bit aggressive, attack the golf course and worst-case scenario allow my short game to bail me out.”
Patrick Reed’s scorecard included nine birdies and just two bogeys, which came at the eighth and 13th holes. Starting on the 10th tee, he made a fast start with three birdies in a row. A dropped shot followed soon after but he quickly picked up another birdie and did not make his first par until the 15th.
More birdies at the 16th and 17th helped him turn in a low number before he added further gains on the front nine at the first, fourth and seventh holes. A bogey at the par-three eighth was his only setback late in the round as he closed out a strong opening day.
