Once again, Luke Donald will be returning to lead Team Europe in the 2027 Ryder Cup. On March 4, the DP World Tour announced that Donald will be leading Team Europe for a record third time, making him the first captain to do so since Bernard Gallacher. He has been a strong force in the Ryder Cup throughout the last two editions, winning big at home and away.

With Luke Donald, it appears that the DP World Tour does not plan to change much with their team’s main position, as Edoardo Molinari has recently announced that he will also return to the team to continue his duty as Vice Captain at the 2027 Ryder Cup. Donald responded to this on X, noting that Molinari is unquestionably one of the most significant members of the squad owing to his critical thinking and game ideas.

The X post by the Team Europe captain read,

“Excited to welcome Edoardo back with me in the team room. His preparation, attention to detail and strategic thinking make him an invaluable First Vice Captain 🇪🇺”

Team Europe has won the Ryder Cup three times in a row on two occasions in the modern era, first being in 2002, 2004, and 2006, and second being in 2010, 2012, and 2014. The squad is on the verge of doing it again next season, and they will have the advantage of playing at home. The Ryder Cup 2027 will be held at Adare Manor in County Limerick, Ireland, beginning September 13, 2027.

This will be the first time the tournament has returned to Ireland since 2006, and the course is expected to provide a luxurious experience. Things are looking well for the event, and Donald has admitted that he still has a lot of things in his bag.

Luke Donald claims that the last two Ryder Cups mean a lot to him

Following the announcement that Luke Donald would lead Team Europe for the third time in a row, the golfer expressed his feelings and how the Ryder Cup has played an important role in not only his life but also that of his family. The golfer also teased the tournament, indicating that he still has some ideas, and while he thought his job was done, it appears that the story is far from over.

According to Golf Channel, Donald claimed,

“The last two Ryder Cups have meant a lot to me and my family. I didn’t imagine this third time would come. Celebrating on that Sunday night in New York after a pressure-packed week in a tough environment, I thought maybe my job was done. But maybe there is a little more story to tell.”

Interestingly, while Team Europe has chosen to go with Luke Donald as captain, Team USA has yet to make any decisions. While there have been reports that Tiger Woods could take the post, the golfer has yet to accept it, citing a lack of time owing to ongoing commitments.
