The PGA Tour will be making its next stop this week in Florida for The Cognizant Classic. The home course for the tournament, the PGA National Champion Course, will be the host for the event. A total of 121 golfers are gearing up to compete in the event, as it will have a total prize pool of $9.6 million. The tournament is one of the PGA’s most historic events, dating back from 1969 to 1972 when it was called the National Airlines Open Invitational.

Despite being one of the oldest tournaments on the circuit, the Cognizant Classic is not one of the PGA’s signature tournaments. The Signature tournaments, such as the Genesis Invitational and the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, have a smaller field, big golfers, and a $20 million prize pool. Furthermore, most flagship tournaments do not have a 36-hole cut, so all golfers play all four rounds.

Returning to the Cognizant Classic, there is a 36-hole cut, and only the top 65 golfers and ties from 121 competitors will compete in the weekend event. To further the tournament’s history, it was known as The Honda Classic for over four decades (1984-2023), after which Cognizant changed and became the title sponsor, and the tournament name was changed beginning with the 2024 edition.

This tournament has been held at numerous golf courses in the United States for many years. For example, from the 1980s to the 1990s, players competed on courses such as Broward County and Coral Springs, but in 2007, the PGA National Champion Course became the tournament’s home course and continues to be so. The 2026 edition of the event will begin on February 26.
