Graeme McDowell is one of the most veteran golfers currently competing on the LIV Golf circuit. The golfer joined the league during its inaugural season in 2022 and has since been a member of the Smash GC. Interestingly, McDowell recently shared an X post in which he mentioned how the LIV circuit has been a huge aid to all the new stars attempting to make it big in the golf industry.
The 46-year-old golfer stated in his tweet that there are some young, outstanding talents in the game who are attempting to earn their way onto the PGA Tour. Because of the large number of talented individuals, some of the best do not make it in, and LIV can provide them with a terrific second chance to prove themselves. Furthermore, there are some well-known veteran golfers who might serve as excellent mentors for them on this circuit.
McDowell also stated in his message that these young golfers also get the benefit of having a set schedule on the circuit, along with great money. The golfer’s X post reads,
“Hot take, but LIV is a legitimate pathway for young potential superstars who can get paid to be mentored in their young careers by Tour greats and play a guaranteed schedule. The road to the PGA Tour is increasingly perilous and littered with great talent that never made it.”
Under the comments of this post, one of the fans posed a fascinating issue to McDowell, stating that after one year, these young players could be relegated from the tour. Graeme McDowell responded to this by noting that golfers sometimes need to back themselves on the course if they want to do something huge. The X post stated,
“Yes, no doubt that relegation from the league and no long-term protection is a potential negative for a young star. But at any level, you have to back yourself to get the job done.”
Aside from that, numerous fans questioned the integrity of the veteran golfers, suggesting that some of them could not be effective mentors; curiously, McDowell responded to these concerns as well.
Graeme McDowell defends Phil Mickelson, referring to him as a terrific mentor

One of the fans in the comments pointed out that being mentored by Phil Mickelson may not be beneficial for some young players. On this, Graeme McDowell stated that, while Mickelson has become controversial in recent years, he remains one of the greatest players of all time, and that Mickelson, too, wishes to share his knowledge with the next generation. The fan’s comment read,
“respectfully gmac, getting mentored by phil mickelson doesnt seem wise”
In response to this, Graeme McDowell’s X post read,
“Respectfully disagree with you. Controversial as Phil may have become these last few years (understatement), he is one of the greatest of all time and wants to pour his knowledge on these kids.”
There have been speculations that Graeme McDowell’s Smash GC has one slot open and that a young golfer may join them, but no names have yet emerged.
