Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti signed a massive $93 million extension with the Hoosiers on Thursday. It is an eight-year contract that will make him one of the highest-paid coaches in college football. This huge extension comes just one and a half seasons into his tenure with the Hoosiers. This extension is now being used as a benchmark deal by other top programs.
On Friday, a report from On3 indicated that Ole Miss is working on getting a deal done with head coach Lane Kiffin. Athletic director Keith Carter spoke about the team’s plan for his contract extension.
“I’d love to get something done like Indiana did with Curt Cignetti before the silly season starts. We’ll see.”

The Hoosiers and Rebels are off to two of the strongest starts to the 2025 college football season.

Lane Kiffin Is Coaching His Sixth Season with the Ole Miss Rebels
While Ole Miss is looking to sign Kiffin to a similar extension as Curt Cignetti, the two coaches are not in similar positions with their programs. Cignetti is still only in his second season with the Hoosiers. Conversely, Kiffin is in his sixth season with Ole Miss.
Leading into this season, there were doubts about Kiffin’s ability to get the Rebels over the hump. However, this season it appears that the Rebels are finally emerging as a top contender in the SEC. They are the No. 5-ranked team in the nation and sit atop the SEC standings, tied with Texas A&M and Alabama. The team is still undefeated and picked up a big win over No. 10-ranked LSU in late September.
However, despite their success to start the year, the team’s next two games will be telling as to what type of team the Rebels are. They play No. 9-ranked Georgia on Saturday, followed by No. 14-ranked Oklahoma next Saturday. If those games go poorly, it could be bad news for Kiffin’s hopes for a large contract extension like Curt Cignetti.
