The 2024 college football season has already provided fans with plenty to think about.
As we enter Week 3 with autumn weather just around the corner, we’ve seen a pair of top-10 teams lose at home to unranked opponents (Florida State and Notre Dame), the defending champions not only lose but never hold a lead at home (Michigan), and one conference make up six of the nation’s top seven teams for the first time in the 88-year history of the AP Poll (SEC).
One thing you have not had to think about is the national championship odds at DraftKings Sportsbook, which have remained status quo at the top with Georgia and Ohio State, just as they were when they opened.
As far as the 2024 season goes, it’s the Bulldogs and the Buckeyes — and then there’s everyone else chasing them.
National Championship Odds 2024
- Georgia +280
- Ohio State +380
- Texas +500
- Oregon +1100
- Alabama +1200
- Ole Miss +1400
Georgia National Championship Odds To Win (+280)
The Bulldogs opened as heavy favorites to win this year’s national championship after they were left on the outside looking in of last season’s playoff thanks to an SEC Championship Game loss to Alabama, which put a stop to the team’s quest for college football’s first three-peat since the dawn of the AP Poll in 1936.
It appears that Georgia is using that disappointment as fuel by outscoring its opponents 82-6 through the first two games of 2024. This is the same team that has been ranked in the Top 10 of the AP Poll for 52 straight weeks and was the only FBS team to finish the 2023 season ranked in the Top 5 for both scoring offense and scoring defense.
Senior quarterback Carson Beck improved to 15-1 in his career as a starter after he matched a school record with five touchdown passes in a 48-3 rout of Tennessee Tech last weekend. Beck is one member of Georgia’s 2024 senior class that has a record of 44-2 overall without a single regular-season loss (38-0).
Ohio State National Championship Odds To Win (+380)
The Buckeyes were a popular bet during the winter and spring to the point where they were briefly co-favorites with Georgia to win the national championship. Though the Bulldogs are back to being clear favorites, the Buckeyes aren’t far behind them in the odds.
Ohio State has trailed for all of six minutes — all in the first quarter of its season-opening win against Akron — so far this season and has held each of its opponents to fewer than 50 rushing yards.
The Buckeyes’ offense might still be a work in progress, with newcomers Chip Kelly as offensive coordinator and Will Howard as the starting quarterback very new in their roles. However, averaging 54 points per game will probably be good enough to win most of the time.
Ohio State’s roster remains loaded with talent led by 10 CFN Preseason All-Americans, the most of any team in the country.
Texas National Championship Odds To Win (+500)
Texas is coming off a dominating performance against Michigan in The Big House, where the Longhorns cemented their presence as national title contenders.
Quinn Ewers vaulted himself into the Heisman Trophy race, if he was not there already, by completing 66.6% of his pass attempts with 246 yards and three touchdowns.
The Longhorns put the game away in the first half by completely demoralizing the defending champions on third down, going 8 for 10 over the first two quarters. Both failed conversions deep into Michigan territory resulted in a pair of field-goal attempts.
It’s not a crazy thought to believe this Texas team is even better than it was a year ago when they reached the College Football Playoff. In need of replacing stars on both sides of the football in WR Xavier Worthy and DT Byron Murphy II, coach Steve Sarkisian loaded back up through a strong freshman recruiting class and experienced additions from the transfer portal.
The SEC newcomers won’t be able to take a week off with this schedule, but the Longhorns look poised in the early going to stay in the national title conversation.
Oregon National Championship Odds To Win (+1100)
The Ducks haven’t looked as dominant as one would think they would be against an FCS opponent (Idaho) and non-power conference FBS opponent (Boise State) through two weeks. Nevertheless, Oregon is 2-0 as they enter their contest against in-state rivals, Oregon State.
The Ducks have an experienced quarterback in Dillon Gabriel, who has been a completion machine with 59 through two games, including 41 in his first taste of Autzen Stadium to set a school record by a quarterback in his debut with the school.

Just like Texas, Oregon is in a new conference and will play a tough Big Ten schedule that includes hosting Ohio State in October and visiting Michigan in November.
The shaky wins have resulted in the Ducks’ title odds getting slightly longer, but there is a lot of skill on offense for them to get things right before the schedule gets tougher.
Alabama National Championship Odds To Win (+1200)
The post-Nick Saban era in Tuscaloosa has gotten off to a strong start, with Kalen DeBoer now patrolling the sidelines. Blowout wins over Western Kentucky and South Florida, the latter of which was close in the fourth quarter before the Tide ran away, have kept their title odds short, though they rank behind fellow SEC squads Georgia and Texas.
The Tide face their first real test of the season when they travel to Madison this weekend to take on Wisconsin, though they will be favored by double digits despite a hostile environment at Camp Randall.
Alabama’s odds to win the national championship got longer than we’re used to seeing after Saban’s retirement announcement but have gotten shorter with two convincing wins on the field.
Even if the Tide escape Wisconsin with a win, the upcoming schedule still looks daunting. It includes home games against top-ranked Georgia and Missouri, as well as road games against Tennessee, LSU, and Oklahoma.
Ole Miss National Championship Odds To Win (+1400)
They say you can only play the games on your schedule. And because that is true, good for Ole Miss for dominating Furman and Middle Tennessee State by a combined score of 128-3 through their opening two games of 2024.
There’s no doubt that the Rebels will be tested by much tougher opponents, starting this week with a trip to Winston-Salem to play Wake Forest, which includes a full SEC slate of games. But these odds might get shorter before they get longer, especially if Jaxson Dart continues to impress.
Dart leads FBS in passing yards (795) while ranking second in completion percentage (87%) and yards per attempt (14.7) through two games to catapult himself into Heisman Trophy consideration.
It should be noted the Rebels have never won an AP National Championship nor has a player from the school won a Heisman Trophy.
