Colin Cowherd landed in hot water with NFL fans after he spelled rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders’ name incorrectly in his X post analyzing Sanders’ great preseason debut.
While Cowherd gave Sanders praise about his performance in the Cleveland Browns’ win over the Carolina Panthers, Cowherd’s misspelling drew immediate ire from Sanders supporters who believed misspelling his name was disrespectful.
The Fox Sports host wrote “Shaddur” in the breakdown on the quarterback’s impressive performance.
Shaddur, like college, moves well (enough) and is very accurate while moving or stationary. So what we all saw — adequate size & mobility, while highly accurate. Three good boxes to check. Some young QBs can look overwhelmed or frenetic. He didn’t.

One frustrated fan quickly fired back with a pointed response :
“At least respect his name and spell it right,” said the fan.

“You don’t even know how to spell his name right lmaooo,” called out another fan.
“Colin, you have way too big of a platform to grossly misspell Shedeur’s name. Have your intern check your work before you press send on Social media,” commented a fan.
“Can’t spell his name right and he was running with the same 3rd/4th stringers he’s been practicing with and knows against nobodies,” corrected another fan whilst also providing insights to Colin’s analysis.
“Almost got that name right. good try,” commented a fan sarcastically.
“Forgot both e’s, added an a, added a d. Incredible stuff,” said another fan.
Meanwhile, some fans overlooked Colin’s spelling error and commented on his analysis:
“Fair but it still means… Nothing. Zach Wilson, 15-20 196 yards 2 TDs and a 136 QB rating in preseason of his rookie yr. Many of my fellow Jets fans were thinning they drafted the next Joe Namath. Lol,” argued a fan.
“But can he hit a ball net in a quick release drill every time?,” questioned a fan.
Sanders’ heroic effort helped the Cleveland Browns defeat Carolina Panthers 30-10 in their 2025 preseason game. Coach Prime’s son’s first step of his NFL career saw him effectively lead the Browns to a convincing preseason win over the Panthers, potentially moving him up the pecking order of Browns’ packed QB roster.

Shedeur Sanders Impresses in First Preseason Game Against the Panthers
Shedeur Sanders wowed everyone in his debut pre-season game against Carolina Panthers. Sanders completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards, with two touchdowns and, most surprisingly, no interceptions.
Both touchdowns went to receiver Kaden Davis, including a nifty seven-yard scoring throw in the second quarter and 12 yards just before half time. Sanders picked up 19 rushing yards on four attempts. He was clearly good enough to attract attention during the draft process, and the skill set showed on his first outing.
Shedeur Sanders’ debut was especially meaningful considering the slide in the draft, from a predicted overall first pick pick to 144 in the fifth round.
