Earlier this week, the Detroit Tigers added Framber Valdez to their bullpen in a $115 million deal for three years. While the Tigers showed intent by signing Valdez, one must not forget that Comerica Park is also home to some talented prospects. Two such talented prospects from the Tigers’ setup are Max Clark and Kevin McGonigle.
Recently, during an appearance on Foul Territory, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch spoke about Clark and McGonigle. First, the host of the show brought up the fact that Clark and McGonigle are both going to big league camp, after which he asked the manager of where do both these youngsters fit in the 2026 season.
Hinch answered:
“Yeah, I just saw them today. So it’s what, Friday before Wednesday, pitchers and catchers, which is then another four or five days until position players report. And those two kids are here in Lakeland. They were taking live BP off a couple of our pitchers. So like, that’s a good start, right? If you’re going to camp that early and get after it, that’s very impressive. So, I love these kids and the energy they bring. And you know, the reputations are obviously out there. There are no more secrets anymore when it comes to these prospects. They get a ton of attention, a ton of love, and deservedly so for what they are doing. So I got to get them to be themselves this spring.”
He also added:
“I just want them to soak up our ENVIronment, our culture, the continuous learning… play in the playoffs, and see if they fit in. And see what they can help contribute to win. That’s like a productive camp.”
Hinch concluded by saying that he’s sure that Max Clark and Kevin McGonigle will make an impression on the Detroit Tigers’ fans by performing well in the 2026 season.
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch also sent Tarik Skubal a message after the arbitration
Tarik Skubal’s contract situation with the Detroit Tigers was one of the highlights of the offseason. For those unaware, Skubal and the Tigers went to arbitration, which was eventually won by the player. Based on this result, Skubal will now receive $32 million for playing for the Tigers in 2026.
Now that Skubal’s situation with the Tigers has been resolved, manager A.J. Hinch revealed a message he sent Skubal following the arbritation. During his appearance on Foul Territory, Hinch mentioned that he asked his star player whether he is ready to win the Division and the World Series.
Hinch said:
“The thing I talked to Tarik about after the hearing was now are you ready to go and win the Cental, and try to win the World Series? And he was you know, in a few exclamation marks, was ready to go, and will be down here this weekend.”
Further, Hinch mentioned his job as the manager of the Tigers is to continue to push Tarik Skubal. Hinch also added that one of his duties as manager is to help create an environment in which Skubal can thrive and be the dominant pitcher that he is.
