Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani entered the injured list on Thursday after exiting during the seventh inning of the team’s 8-6 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Ohtani is listed day-to-day due to mild hamstring tightness.
The Japanese phenom had felt a minor discomfort after a stolen base attempt in the fourth inning of Thursday’s game. Nonetheless, Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts stated his concern level is not high, and Ohtani’s exit was a precautionary measure.
Ohtani is the latest current or former MVP to join the injured list in the last two weeks. New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge entered the IL on June 4. He is on the 10-day IL list due to a stress fracture in his rib.
Ronald Acuna Jr. is also on the 10-day IL list due to a strained left hamstring. He suffered the injury while running to first base during the Atlanta Braves’ game against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday.
Ohtani’s inclusion on the IL list, along with Judge and Acuna Jr., has Dodgers fans worried. They aired thoughts on X.
“Yeah that can’t be good,” wrote a fan.
“Damn. First Judge, and now Ohtani? Thats 7 MVPS the last 5 seasons combined. Not a good couple of weeks for baseball, a fan commented.
“Add Acuna and it’s 8 MVPs,” another fan added.
“Best player in baseball is out. Not ideal,” a fan chimed in.
“Both reigning AL and NL MVP on the IL is brutal,” a fan lamented.
“Quick recovery ❤️🩹,” a fan prayed.
Ohtani had reached base all four times before Santiago Espinal replaced him as the pinch hitter. He smashed one solo home run, while going 2-for-2 with two walks.
Shohei Ohtani’s two-way talent shined in Dodgers vs Pirates Game 2
Shohei Ohtani was the starting pitcher and designated hitter for the Dodgers on Wednesday. He impressed with at the plate and also on the mound, but the Dodgers suffered a narrow 9-8 defeat.
The Dodgers superstar labored late on the mound, allowing four runs (three earned) across 6.2 innings. Ohtani struck out six and walked three on 102 pitches. The Dodgers led the game 6-3 when he left the mound. However, the Dodgers bullpen imploded, and Pirates orchestrated a comeback victory.
Ohtani went 1-for-5 at the plate, but that sole hit was a 412-foot two-run homer. The dinger came in bottom of the ninth inning off Gregory Soto, bringing the Dodgers with a single run before the final out.
