Texas A&M coach Mike Earley faced subtle criticism from star CF Travis Chestnut’s mother after the Aggies, the regional No. 1 seed, were eliminated from the College World Series College Station Regional. They lost consecutive games to the USC Trojans in the Regionals’ final stage, ending early and shocking fans despite their talented roster.
Chestnut’s mother, Amy, shared a detailed social media post criticizing the season’s shortcomings that could have led to wins. She praised her son’s excellent yet underused performance, noted some players stepped up but lacked playtime, thanked teammates for support, and expressed hope for the next season.
Fans were quick to share their reactions to the viral post, with many claiming they would have been embarrassed if their mothers had done the same.
“If I were Travis, I would be absolutely humiliated. Goodness this is embarrassing,” one fan commented.
“Oof. I would be so pissed if my mom did this,” another fan commented.
“I would be pissed if either of my parents did this crap,” yet another fan commented.
Some fans argued that Chestnut’s mother was complicating his life by sharing unnecessary posts online, as he has finished four years with the Aggies and is nearing 25, an age when athletes often try their hand in the big leagues.
“The thing is, Travis Chestnut accepted his role. He pushed so hard to return to Texas A&M, knowing how loaded that roster was. So his mom is not helping him at all by doing this. And considering she complained about the same thing with Schloss, maybe she’s the problem,” one fan commented.
“Yeah this is not making Travis’ life easier but I imagine he’s used to it. The way she’s quoting his stats & his game you just know this lady was an insufferable travel ball Mom to all his past Coaches. That’s the kind of parent who has their kid on a different team each year,” another fan commented.
“Yeah, this reads typical. My son is actually the best player on the team, and the coach is just too stupid to play him,” parents talk,” yet another fan commented.
Texas A&M Compiled a Good Record, But Will Travis Chestnut be Back For Next Year?
In 2024, the Aggies reached the College World Series finals but lost to Tennessee in three games. Following this, head coach Jim Schlossnagle departed for rival Texas, and assistant Mike Earley took over at College Station.
In his first season, Earley faced challenges, finishing 30-26 and missing the postseason. This season, Texas A&M started ranked No. 25. Under Earley’s leadership, the team performed well in the regular season, posting a 39-13 record and earning a regional host spot in the NCAA Tournament.
It was a disappointing finish to Earley’s second full season in charge of the program, as fans hoped for a stronger performance in the MCWS. Nonetheless, Earley remains optimistic and hopeful about leading the talented team again next season. However, it is still uncertain whether Chestnut will return to the program for another year.
