Former Miami Marlins president David Samson suffered a personal tragedy as his daughter, Kyra, died at the age of 28. He revealed that she was battling brain cancer, specifically Glioblastoma, for nine months and 11 days.
In his statement on X, Samson said Kyra died peacefully. She was someone who “loved deeply,” and the former Marlins executive was extremely proud of the courage and resolve she showed in her fight against the disease.
“Yesterday, my daughter, Kyra, passed away peacefully after a 9-month and 11-day fight against one of the cruelest diseases I’ve ever seen up close. She was diagnosed with Brain Cancer, specifically Glioblastoma,” Samson said. “I have felt all of your concern and love for these months and wasn’t ready to be any more specific than I was.
Kyra was a 28-year-old young woman who loved deeply and who is impossible to describe in 280 characters. While her life got stolen from her, she handled these months with courage, poise, and resolve.”
In Kyra’s memory, Samson has initiated “The Kyra Fund,” the proceeds of which will go for research treatments for Glioblastomas.
Former Marlins President David Samson Shaved His Head While His Daughter Underwent Treatment
David Samson had first told listeners of his Nothing Personal podcast in September that one of his daughters had become seriously ill. However, He didn’t name the daughter who was suffering from an illness back then.
“I’ve been gone for two weeks as my family has been dealing with a critical situation,” Samson said. “I have a daughter who is seriously ill, and it came out of nowhere. I have been spending the last two weeks trying to figure out how to do the only thing that matters, which is to take care of her and my other children and my family.”
The whole family got their head shaved to support Kyra’s treatment, the host of the Nothing Personal with David Samson podcast shared in November.
“When you see a picture of the show today, you will notice that all of my hair is gone from the top of my head,” he said. “I’ve got a rather full beard that has not been shaved or trimmed since Sept. 12. And this weekend I went with other members of my family in support of my daughter, and we all got our heads shaved.”
Samson, married to Cindi Jacobs, a former school director, shares three children: daughters Hannah and Kyra, and son Caleb.
