Los Angeles Angels veteran Mike Trout was recently left with a difficult choice to make. While Trout is a player who is well-trained to deal with difficult pitches on the baseball field, his challenge this time came off it. Trout was asked to choose between collectible cards of Paul Skenes and Shohei Ohtani.

On X (formerly Twitter), Fanatics Collect uploaded a video in which Trout had to choose between the two. The 34-year-old star had to pick between Paul Skenes Debut Patch, which went for $1.1M, and Shohei Ohtani 1/1 Gold Logoman, which sold for $3M. Trout decided to choose Ohtani.

Mike Trout said:

“I mean, I love Skenes… big fan of Skenes, but I have to go with Shohei.”

While Mike Trout might have picked Shohei Ohtani in the above-mentioned case, it’s important to know that Trout means a lot as a player to Skenes. As a matter of fact, Skenes also made a statement about Trout last year, which gained widespread attention from fans of both the Los Angeles Angels and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Paul Skenes reacted to meeting Mike Trout last year

While Paul Skenes might be an important part of the Pittsburgh Pirates setup, it’s important to know that the 23-year-old was a lifelong Los Angeles Angels fan growing up. Hence, it’s only natural for Skenes to idolise someone like Mike Trout, who has been with the Angels since the beginning of his Major League Baseball career.

While Skenes is someone who saw Trout on his television set at home growing up, last year, the young baseball star met Mike Trout. In an interaction with reporters in April last year, Skenes said meeting Trout was a “cool moment’ for him.

Skenes said:

“I was walking in from the bullpen, and I just looked up and saw (Trout), so I was a little surprised to see him,” Skenes told reporters Tuesday. “Didn’t tell him [I watched him growing up]. Maybe somebody told him that. I don’t know. That was kind of a cool moment for me.”

Apart from meeting his idol, Mike Trout, Paul Skenes also had a decent year with the Pittsburgh Pirates. While Skenes posted a 10-10 record, he had an impressive ERA of 1.97. He also registered 216 strikeouts.
