Georgia Bulldogs star Tre Phelps shared a message on social media that had fans buzzing. Phelps finished his third year with the program on a high note, leading the team to the College World Series semifinals, where they fell to the Oklahoma Sooners 11-4 on Wednesday.
While many speculated that Phelps would enter the MLB draft this year, the third baseman hinted at returning for his senior year. He first shared a comment that read: “It is a four-year degree. Loving every bit of it.”
Phelps then reacted to a post on X by sharing a message on his Instagram story.
“I am forever grateful to have had the chance to wear this jersey with pride. I can’t thank my Lord and Savior, Family, Teammates, Coaches, Trainers, Academic advisors, and all of the people who showed up for us these past 3 years at foley and believed in us. Who knows maybe we get to do it one last time. Forever a DAWG,” Phelps wrote.
Phelps has been a standout player for the Bulldogs over the past three years. He posted a batting average over .300, with at least 10 home runs and 40 RBIs in his first two seasons.
Tre Phelps Bid Adieu to Omaha While Taking Pride in Wearing the Georgia Jersey
After an 11-4 defeat to the Oklahoma Sooners, Georgia’s journey in the CWS concluded. In a post-game media conference, veterans Tre Phelps and Kolby Branch discussed their emotional run in Omaha over the past two weeks.
Beyond the competition, Phelps shared how meaningful it was to wear the Bulldogs jersey.
“It’s meant a whole lot. I’ve been a Georgia fan growing up… I mean, I bleed black and red, always have and always will,” Phelps said.
If Phelps does return for one more season, he will hope to lead the Bulldogs a step further to the CWS championship series.
