Toronto Blue Jays veteran ace Max Scherzer has a request for MLB, considering the utilization of starting pitchers.
Scherzer, a three-time Cy Young winner and eight-time All-Star, is not happy with how early teams are pulling out their starting pitchers from the game. This might have to do with injury precautions or run support.
According to Scherzer, the veteran wants MLB to make it compulsory for starting pitchers to throw at least 100 pitches before they are allowed to be removed from the game.
“I would love to see some type of pitch minimum brought into the game so that way the starter has to go out there and throw, you know, a hundred pitches,” Scherzer said. “That’s something that I hate seeing within the game. I get why it’s going on, but I would love to see things to be, to try to empower the starting pitcher.
“Try to get starting pitchers back to throwing, you know, trying to get to seven innings, 105 pitches, and have that kind of be a standard throughout the game. You know, if you’re, you know, giving up let’s say two, three runs and you’re at 90 pitches, no, you got to continue to pitch. You got to keep going back out there.”
Fans reacted to this unusual request from Scherzer for MLB starters.
“top 10 dumbest things ive ever heard is pretty impressive,” one fan wrote.
“He’s a f**king psychopath….I mean that as a compliment,” another commented.
“The sabermetrics people would have an absolute fit if this became a rule,” one fan remarked.
“He would have an ERA above 20 this season if Schneider kept him in that long,” another wrote.
“I think he’d give up 100 runs before he reaches 100 pitches,” one fan joked.
“Well this is about the dumbest thing I’ve seen today, and that’s with all the f**king UFC sh*t floating around,” another added.
Max Scherzer Reaches 3,500Ks, Becoming 11th MLB Ace
Last week, Max Scherzer reached another illustrious pitching milestone when he struck out the Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber in his last start.
The Blue Jays veteran became only the 11th MLB pitcher to reach 3,500 strikeouts. Currently, only he and Justin Verlander are the active pitchers with this feat. Upon reaching this milestone, Scherzer was presented with a bottle of Louis XIII cognac by the Blue Jays.
Scherzer is currently working his way back from right forearm tendinitis and left ankle inflammation.
