Ole Miss ended up on the wrong side of history after the Troy Trojans baseball eliminated the Rebels for the program’s first-ever Men’s College World Series (MCWS) win. Troy, making their debut appearance in Omaha, had their first victory at the MCWS.
On Sunday, the Rebels were defeated 12-8 in a stunning defeat to the Trojans. As a result, Ole Miss exits Omaha after going 0–2 in the MCWS. Earlier, Troy opened the MCWS with a loss to Virginia, making the game against Ole Miss an elimination game. The Rebels also lost their opener to North Carolina.
The latest loss has given other fans reason to mock the program over its unreal downfall.
“Ole Miss poverty program, losing to Troy in the MCWS is a historical embarrassment,” one fan wrote.
“OM was literally gifted the easiest path to a championship series ever, and they go 0-2. Such a shame..” another added.
“Ole Miss will make it about lane kiffin lol,” one fan joked.
“…..pending a ruling from a Mississippi judge of course,” another fan wrote sarcastically.
“Bye bye Ole Miss… down with traitors,” one fan wrote.
“Hypothetically, ole miss would’ve won if they played a best of 3 series,” one fan commented.
Troy Erased Four Run Deficit To Hand Ole Miss an Embarrassing Defeat
In the early part of the game, Ole Miss was having a healthy 6-2 lead. This was great after their quiet performance against North Carolina in the opener. The Rebels piled up hits and appeared poised to avoid elimination. But Troy never let the game get away.
Finally, the Trojans’ explosive offense started to turn things in Omaha. After struggling early against Ole Miss starter Hunter Elliott, they finished with a barrage of late runs.
The turning point in the game came in the seventh inning when the Trojan exploded for four runs. This included a go-ahead two-run double from Jabe Boroff. He has been nicknamed “Jabe Ruth” during Troy’s Cinderella postseason.
Ole Miss threatened to rally as the Rebels cut into the lead. However, a late Blake Cavill home run helped create breathing room for the Trojans, as the Rebels were denied a comeback.
