The Texas State Bobcats and the Rice Owls are heading to the Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas, on Friday for the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl. The game is considered a tribute to veterans and members of the armed services, as well as serving as a college football bowl game. Both teams are from Texas, with Fort Worth considered neutral territory, so neither team would have home-field advantage here.
Much like many other teams entering a bowl game, Rice and Texas State are both expecting a few players to miss this contest. This may be due to opting out or injuries.
Rice was 5-7 overall this season and was lucky to get into a Bowl game. Meanwhile, Texas State was 6-6 overall.
Armed Forces Bowl: Texas State vs. Rice Opt-Outs And Injury Report
Rice Owls
- QB Chase Jenkins: Opted out, transfer portal
- WR Drayden Dickmann: Opted out
- RB Daelen Alexander: Opted out
- S LaVonte Johnson: Opted out
- QB Drew Devillier: Opted out
- CB Khary Crump: kicked off the team in Week 7
For the Armed Forces Bowl, the Rice Owls do not have too many injury problems. However, their starting quarterback, Chase Jenkins, has opted out and is expected to enter the transfer portal once it opens on Jan. 2, which is a massive blow to the program. With Drew Devillier also opting out, the responsibility now falls on backup QB Patrick Crayton Jr. to lead the Owls to victory against Texas State, which will have a pretty much intact roster.
Texas State Bobcats
- RG Tellek Lockette: Opted out, transfer portal, also injured
- RB/KR Jaylen Jenkins: Opted out, transfer portal
- DT Bryce Carter: injured, questionable
Texas State has minimal opt-outs and injuries, so they are pretty much complete heading into the Armed Forces Bowl. They will not be missing any key players. One of their players who opted for the transfer portal was already injured to begin with, so the Bobcats are very well-positioned in this game.
