The Ohio State Buckeyes were off to a hot start at Columbus during their season opener against Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns. However, many fans are questioning the officiating during the game, as several calls went on to favor Julian Sayin’s squad, which went on to finish the first quarter in a scoreless tie.
This soon had fans complaining on Reddit about how the officiating has been going so far, with many slamming the referees for bailing out Ohio State on back-to-back plays.
“Refs with more yards than either team so far,” one person said.
“Refs are rusty too,” noted another redditor.
“Refs are on one,” joked one fan.
“Is this ref drunk?” asked one football fan.
“Everyone: bitching about the refs making calls
“Hold my beer, Imma fuck up basic procedures.” added another commenter.
“Bet they won’t call a hold on the OSU o line,” another redditor pointed out.
Both teams have been struggling on offense so far, with the only touchdown happening so far coming from Ohio State’s CJ Donaldson. While the referees’ calls seemingly favored Ohio State, Texas itself has been struggling with the Buckeyes’ defense. Arch Manning, who is coming into the game with a lot of hype and is favored to win a Heisman, has also struggled, as his first pass went incomplete.
The game itself has been called a defensive battle so far, as both defensive lines have been outshining their offensive counterparts, with Ohio State’s CJ Donaldson being the only one who has broken through their opponents’ defenses so far.
Both teams are in a must-win situation, as Ohio State aims to win back-to-back national titles, while Texas, the favorite to win the national title this year, wants to prove that it is the best college football team out there.
