A piece of the puzzle has fallen into place for head coach Kalani Sitake’s BYU program as former Eastern Michigan WR Darius Lassiter has announced his transfer destination. Lassiter committed to transfer to the Cougars after generating a ton of buzz in the transfer portal.

The Cougars were active in the portal and achieved their goal of adding to the receiver room this offseason. That activity paid off in a big way as one of the top targets in the portal made it official via social media.
“This time if I do it right, I’m lit for life,” Lassiter posted on Twitter.
Lassiter joins the Cougars after a dominant season with the Eagles, where he had 40 receptions for 471 yards and four scores. Those are good numbers, but they certainly are not indicative of his receiving ability.

He’s a big man with a large catch radius and surprising speed. His place in the transfer portal didn’t stop him from ranking as one of the top 20 receivers in the MAC this season. Lassiter knows how to use the sideline well and turned multiple short-area receptions into big plays with a unique ability after the catch.
Lassiter joined Eastern Michigan after transferring in from Butler Community College, where he played 17 games and logged 51 receptions at a ridiculous 18.1 yards per catch over three seasons, with 924 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Lassiter is the son of Kwamie Lassiter, an All-American at Butler and NFL veteran who logged 25 career interceptions.
The timing of this is certainly interesting as Lassiter heads to Provo on the heels of Kody Epps entering the portal just a few hours prior to Lassiter’s decision. Epps was set to be a valuable contributor, but now, with his departure, a hole has opened in the receiving corps.
Lassiter will certainly be counted on immediately in the BYU receiver room, and counting his time at Butler and Eastern Michigan gives a true indication of just how impactful he could be for BYU this fall.
