Who Was Ms. Irrelevant of the 2025 WNBA Draft

The 2025 WNBA Draft was held on April 14 at The Shed in Hudson Yards, New York City. UConn standout Paige Bueckers headlined the night, going No. 1 overall to the Dallas Wings. Thirty-eight athletes were selected across three rounds. As is tradition, the final pick earned the tongue-in-cheek title “Ms. Irrelevant,” a play on the NFL’s “Mr. Irrelevant.”

While the name pokes fun at being chosen last, it also celebrates the achievement of making it to the league—highlighting the slim odds and the perseverance required to reach that milestone.

Final Pick, First Dreams: The 2025 WNBA Draft’s Ms. Irrelevant

The final selection of the 2025 WNBA Draft, a lighthearted honor dubbed “Ms. Irrelevant,” was awarded to Adja Kane, a 20-year-old center from France. The New York Liberty, reigning league champions, chose Kane with the 38th overall pick in the third round on April 14 at The Shed in Manhattan.

Kane, who stands at 6’3″, currently competes for Landerneau Bretagne Basket in the Ligue Féminine de Basketball (LFB), France’s premier women’s league. Over 22 games this season, she has posted averages of 4.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, and 1.1 assists—numbers that reflect solid contributions and potential for growth.

She also boasts international experience, having represented France in the 2024 FIBA U20 Women’s EuroBasket. Her exposure to elite-level competition adds to her value as a long-term prospect.

“As an organization, we pride ourselves on embracing the global nature of the game and are proactive in assembling a deep group of international talent,” said Jonathan Kolb, general manager of the Liberty.

“We had a unique opportunity tonight to select Adja Kane, a talented young player from a strong program in France, who will continue to develop overseas for the next few years with our support from afar.”

Kane, born March 30, 2005, brings size, interior defense and international pedigree to a Liberty roster that has consistently looked abroad for talent. Though unlikely to join the team immediately, she remains on New York’s radar as a long-term asset.

The Liberty will play the Las Vegas Aces at Barclays Center on May 17 in the opening game of the 2025 regular season.
