Jason Whitlock Brings Up Angel Reese’s Troubled Past With Kim Mulkey As Chicago Star’s Suspension Continues

Angel Reese has made her presence felt in the WNBA ever since her arrival in the league. With a reputation as an elite rebounder, high will power, dedication and resilience, Reese proved her worth to the Chicago Sky very quickly. Being one of the key parts for Kim Mulkey, Reese was very vital in LSU’s success.

However, recent past has raised some eyebrows around her values and loyalty towards her teammates. Chicago Sky find themselves in a hopeless spot in the league. They are positioned 12th in the Eastern Conference, and their season is as good as finished. There is an obvious air of disappointment and anguish around the squad.

In that same emotion, Reese recently called out a few of her teammates as well as the Sky management which did not sit right with a lot of people. Renowned sports journalist Jason Whitlock was one of them.

Whitlock started with admitting how Angel Reese was his favorite WNBA player to talk about apart from Caitlin Clark. He then called out Reese and brought up her past with LSU.

“I’m gonna transfer to LSU and play for Kim Mulkey in a super team and snatch me a ring and troll Caitlin Clark. What happened the next year after winning that championship? Angel Reese, the start of that season in Kim Mulkey’s doghouse suspended or something went on at the beginning of that season. They don’t repeat as national champions. This is Angel Reese. She is a headache. And I know factually no one enjoys playing with her,” Whitlock slammed Reese. (4:48)

Jason Whitlock continued to say that Reese basically insinuated Rachel Banham and Hailey Van Lith “being garbage”. Whitlock also mentioned how Van Lith also had some friction with Angel Reese at Kim Mulkey’s LSU.

“If you remember, Haley Van Lith in college was at LSU with Angel Reese, had a mental breakdown and transferred to TCU. None of this is a secret. Angel Reese is a nightmare to play with and play for, but Angel Reese has a destination in mind. Angel Reese wants out of Chicago and wants to go play for the Dallas Wings. She wants to go play with Paige Bueckers, who’s going to be the rookie of the year,” Whitlock added (5:52).

Angel Reese’s Harsh Words About Chicago Sky Teammates

It’s clear how Angel Reese let the disappointment get the better of herself. No wonder she had no intention of hurting anyone and was just speaking her mind about Chicago Sky’s troubles and how her team can get better.

However, her words did hurt her teammates and the Sky fanbase. While few of the fans understand her outlook and agree with her, many in general do not share the same sentiment.

She vented out her frustration in an interview with the Chicago Tribune, saying:

“We can’t rely on Courtney [Vandersloot] to come back [from an ACL tear] at the age that she’s at. I know she’ll be a great asset for us, but we can’t rely on that. We need someone, probably a little younger with some experience, somebody who’s been playing the game and is willing to compete for a championship and has done it before.”

Angel Reese also hinted at how she would be willing to “move in a different direction and do what’s best for her.” Ever since the fiasco, Sky has sidelined Reese, and she has not had a chance to show her quality on the court for a while now. Sky has taken some disciplinary measure that they deemed necessary.

Will Angel Reese leave Sky next season? Or will they iron out their issues?
