Duke sophomore and former ACC Sixth Player of the Year Oluchi Okananwa entered the transfer portal after a sophomore year that saw her average 10.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.8 steals off the bench.
Now, the 5’10” guard from Boston, Massachusetts is seeing attention from a variety of teams, including three Final Four participants, she told On3’s Talia Goodman.

Duke Transfer Guard Oluchi Okananwa Receives Attention From UConn, South Carolina, UCLA and More
Okananwa has heard from national champion UConn and Final Four participants South Carolina and UCLA since hitting the portal, she told On3. She’s also heard from Louisville, Tennessee, Maryland, Notre Dame, NC State, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and UNC.
Okananwa played a crucial role in the Blue Devils’ Sweet 16 victory over bitter rival UNC in March, scoring 12 of the team’s 47 points en route to a low-scoring 47-38 victory, more than any player on either team. She was held to only six points on 2-7 shooting in the team’s 54-50 Elite Eight loss to South Carolina.
“This one stings a bit because of the way the game went and how close it was,” Okananwa said after the loss. “This being our second year, and us having more experience and being more knowledgeable in this game, we obviously had a lot more confidence. But, (I’m) so proud of these girls. We’re all so proud of the season we’ve had. Like always, we’re gonna take our mistakes, take the lessons we’ve learned from this game, and apply them for next season.”
