UConn Star Paige Bueckers Inducted Into Huskies of Honor Program on Senior Day

For five years, UConn Huskies guard Paige Bueckers has looked up at the banners hanging from the rafters of Gampel Pavilion, studying the names and numbers of UConn legends who came before her. Each represents a player who left an undeniable mark on one of the most storied programs in women’s college basketball.

But on Sunday, Bueckers finally saw her name immortalized along with them. It was a moment of celebration, recognition, and history as the Huskies honored one of the greatest players to ever don the blue and white.

UConn Legend Paige Bueckers Honored in Huskies of Honor Program

Senior Day was already going to be special for Paige Bueckers, but it became a moment she would never forget when her name and number were hung in the rafters of the Huskies’ arena.

In front of a packed home crowd, she delivered another commanding performance over the Marquette Golden Eagles. The win capped off a perfect 18-0 record in Big East play for the Huskies.

As the final buzzer sounded, it was time for her moment of personal triumph. UConn honored Bueckers by inducting her into the prestigious Huskies of Honor program, cementing her status alongside other all-time greats, like Maya Moore, Breanna Stewart, and Diana Taurasi.

Following the ceremony, Bueckers took the microphone and addressed the crowd, expressing her gratitude for the unwavering support she received throughout her journey.

“Thank you guys for coming out,” Bueckers said. “Thank you for an amazing four, five, six years. The basketball capital of the world wouldn’t be what it is without you guys. The support through the ups and downs in the journey of all of our careers. You’ve been there every step of the way. Best fans in the country, best support system in the country.”

    Bueckers’ Leadership Highlights Her Legacy

While the individual accolade was a moment of recognition, Bueckers remains focused on the bigger picture—bringing another national championship to UConn. The Huskies have not claimed an NCAA title since 2015-16, and Bueckers is determined to change that narrative before she bids farewell to the Huskies.

With the No. 1 seed secured for the Big East Tournament, UConn will have a few days of rest before returning to action on Sunday. The Huskies will face the winner of the first-round matchup between No. 8 seed St. John’s and No. 9 seed Butler. As the postseason looms, the expectations are sky-high for Bueckers and her team.

ESPN’s latest bracketology projects UConn as a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament, positioning them as a legitimate contender for the national title. If there is one player who can carry them on a deep tournament run, it’s Bueckers.
