Former UConn Star Ranks NCAA Championship With Geno Auriemma’s Huskies Over WNBA Title

Former UConn star and current Connecticut Sun general manager Morgan Tuck is one of the few people to have won both the NCAA national title and the WNBA championship. She won four national titles under Geno Auriemma at UConn and then her first and only WNBA title with the Seattle Storm. The question now is, which title does she prefer if made to choose?

Tuck appeared on “The Hoops Cap Pod” podcast with Mark Zanetto and talked about her two different championship reigns, the four (2013-2016) with UConn and the one with the Sun (2020). To her, it may be like comparing apples to oranges.

“Yeah, I think there’s a bit of a different feel. Obviously, a championship is a championship, but you know, in college, you live with your team all year, right? Like you’re in summer school, you have preseason, you get into the season, like it’s a long process, and then you’re with these people for like four years, three to four years, you know, depending on the class,” she said regarding her Natty with UConn. “Whereas a pro, my first year going into Seattle, it was in COVID during the bubble season, right? So, it was such a weird year and like such a weird season,” she added regarding her WNBA title win with the Storm.

Despite winning a WNBA championship at Seattle, Morgan Tuck was more known for her time with the Connecticut Sun, where she was a fan favorite. Tuck announced her retirement after her title win with Seattle because of various knee injuries.

How Good Was Morgan Tuck at UConn?

Morgan Tuck spent all four of her college years with the Huskies and formed an unstoppable tandem with Breanna Stewart, whom she reunited with during her lone year with the Seattle Storm. How good was she? Her four national titles speak for themselves.

With UConn, she was the other star in the team alongside Stewart, averaging 13.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game as a senior and breaking the 100 assists milestone in her time at the school. However, her career started slowly on the team, as she was hampered with injuries as a freshman but became a star during her junior year.

Morgan Tuck is also highly decorated as a college player, being a – 2016 WBCA All-American, a 2016 American Athletic Conference First Team member, and was also named to the 2016 All-NCAA Tournament Team for 2015 and 2016.
