Geno Auriemma recently made an appearance on Azzi Fudd’s podcast and the fans were abuzz about how he agreed to do Fudd’s podcast before Sue Bird’s. UConn and WNBA legend Sue Bird has had a podcast for a few years now. Herself and Diana Taurasi have also hosted the Final Fours and national championships game for a few years now. Sue Bird, a veteran of the game and a veteran of podcasting, recently made an appearance on Azzi Fudd’s podcast.
In a recent episode of Fudd Around and Find Out, Fudd mentioned how there was noise around Geno’s appearance. She asked Bird how Geno came on Fudd’s podcast before Sue’s podcast, “Bird’s Eye View”. Bird gave a hilarious response.
“Okay, so recently we had Coach Auriemma on our podcast and there were a lot of comments on social media after about how he joined our pod before yours. And I was curious to know what your response was to that, but also like why is that? Why hasn’t he joined your pod?” Azzi asked Bird at 10:42.
Sue hilariously answered, “Well, he hasn’t been invited.” She then continued to explain why she hasn’t invited the UConn boss.
“So for the podcast I do by myself, ‘Bird’s Eye View’, that right now is like only players. Actually only like WNBA players. And I think eventually I’ll start to like branch out, go the coaching route, college players maybe like that kind of a thing. But right now it’s just WNBA players. So he doesn’t, you know, the man never played so he doesn’t fit.” Bird trolled Geno on his playing career.
“As far as a ‘Touch More’ goes, you know, Megan [Rapinoe] and I talked about it. We want to get CD [Chris Dailey] on before we get anybody on. CD keeps turning us down.” Bird cleared up.
Fudd then mentioned how she also has been encouraging UConn’s assistant coach to talk more and express herself publicly. She said, “She [CD] was like, ‘Who wants to hear what I have to say?’ I was like, “CD, everyone. Who doesn’t want to hear what you have to say?” Everybody.”
Bird shared how she plans to invite Geno Auriemma only after Chris Dailey makes an appearance on her podcast.
Sue Bird Comments on Her And Diana Taurasi’s Loyalty To UConn Huskies
Azzi Fudd’s co-host Ashanti Parker mentioned how they asked Geno about NIL and the transfer portal. Ashanti asked Sue whether she and Diana Taurasi would have taken advantage of the new rules in college basketball if they existed during their time. She asked if the duo would have transferred to any other school.
Bird answered, “I don’t think we would have left. I’m a big believer like when your team is good, all the money’s coming. All the accolades are coming, everything’s coming when your team is good.”
She continued, “So like whatever you might get if you left to go on your own, I feel like if you stay and you win, which obviously we know that my era like we went out um champions, like you’re just going to get just as much. So, I don’t think we would have left.”
