Caitlin Clark has been a divisive figure in the WNBA, with many of the old guard not fond of her, while her die-hard fans are seen as unaccepting of any criticism of her, constructive or otherwise. One of the older guard from the WNBA who once criticized her was UConn legend and former Phoenix Mercury star Diana Taurasi, who once said that reality would come to Clark in the WNBA.
With the apparent disrespect from the older voices in the league, a lot of Clark’s supporters have come to her rescue, as well as prominent figures, such as WWE star Seth Rollins. In an interview, Mr. Money in the Bank defended the Indiana Fever star from critics.
“Caitlin Clark, like she is a lightning rod, right? For the good and the bad, whatever the intention is,” Rollins said.
“I can’t think of an athlete in a sport that’s been so polarizing for nothing. She’s not a political figure, she tries to just stay in her lane and do her thing and somehow she’s been such a lightning rod for takes on both sides,” he added.
“I simply cannot understand, I knid of… I am not like kind of anti-Diana Taurasi either, I think she’s a legend, and I understand, but why? Why would you do this? Why are you dunking on the next generation?”
The former WWE champion then mentioned that there were also a lot of cards that get played on her, including the race card.
“There’s so many cards that get played on her, like she’s not ready for the Olympics, the race card gets played on her,” Rollins said.
Rollins, a native of Iowa, much like Clark, said he sympathizes a lot with her and added he just cannot fathom why his fellow Iowan would get all this criticism.
Diana Taurasi and Caitlin Clark Have Now Made Up
Despite Diana Taurasi previously criticizing Clark, the former Phoenix Mercury star has admitted that she was wrong and actually made up with the Indiana Fever star last April.
Caitlin Clark appeared in Taurasi’s and fellow WNBA legend Sue Bird’s podcast, “The Bird & Taurasi Show,” where Taurasi admitted that she was wrong, and in a call-back to her previous criticism, admitted that “reality is coming to me now.”
She then went on to praise Clark and said that in their last game against each other in Phoenix, before Taurasi announced her retirement, she noted how much anticipation was there, especially with her earlier criticisms towards Clark.
