Paige Bueckers recently finished a tremendous season with the Dallas Wings. After winning the national title with Geno Auriemma’s UConn, Paige was drafted as the first overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft. She also won the Rookie of the Year award and was one of the best players in the league despite the Wings’ poor season.
Recently, Bueckers appeared on the “What Drives Winning” podcast with Brett Ledbetter. For this episode, Ledbetter revisited multiple Zoom calls he had with Paige over the past year or so. The Dallas star reacted to various clips.
“So here’s what I would ask you is you’re looking back on that kid and there were things that you hid from the world because of shame. But then when you detach and you look back on that person, you actually see, wow, like all of those things that I’m hiding from the world is actually where I get my strength from. How do you process that?” Ledbetter asked. (4:08)
Paige answered:
“It’s hard because the things that I mean I’ve changed my perspective from things happening to me to things happening for me. And I’m proud of all the things that I’ve been through. And you don’t want to talk bad about other people because of situations that happened to you, but you realize how important it was to shaping who you are. Um, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”
“I know there’s some things people look back on and regret, but everything happened for a reason. And I’m extremely grateful for that. And to be able to show like moments of weakness or times of struggle or in times of adversity and how much it grows you to be strong, I think that’s something that you should be proud of and to speak your truth in that is something I’m still learning to do,” she added.
Paige Bueckers’ Admission From 2024
During a Zoom call on September 25, 2024, Paige discussed coping with tough moments since childhood. She shared how, at every minor inconvenience, she would find solace and escape in her love for basketball. She used to go to the park at her mother’s place with her stepdad.
She remembered that they had a hoop in the driveway, where she used to go to feel better. That feeling of getting lost in love with basketball gave Paige strength, and she saw herself as an unbreakable little girl. Now, as she recollected memories and watched the clip from last year, Paige talked about how she channeled her strength.
