UConn Huskies star Azzi Fudd, who is currently dating former teammate and Dallas Wings rookie Paige Bueckers, reunited with her high school prom date, MLB rising star James Wood, at Nationals Park, on Monday.

Fudd and Wood both hail from the D.C.-Maryland-Virginia (DMV) area and have maintained a close bond since their teenage years.

Wood is currently in the sophomore year of his MLB career. After making his debut in 2024, in 2025, he’s having an excellent season at the plate, hitting .275 along with 24 home runs and 14 stolen bases. Wood was drafted by the San Diego Padres as the 62nd overall pick in 2021.

However, Wood was traded in August 2022 along with CJ Abrams, Luke Voit, MacKenzie Gore, Robert Hassell and Jarlín Susana to the Washington Nationals in exchange for Juan Soto and Josh Bell.

Paige Bueckers & Azzi Fudd Finally Are A Couple

Both Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd dropped subtle hints in the lead-up to the WNBA All-Star weekend regarding their relationship. At the orange carpet in Indianapolis over the weekend, Bueckers participated in a playful WAG Talk quiz. She correctly answered personal questions about her “D‑1 girlfriend.”

When asked who that was, she smiled and said, “Azzi Fudd,” officially confirming what many had long speculated.

Before the reveal, Bueckers and Fudd have dropped hints. Fudd posted a mirror selfie in which the back of her phone case read:

    “Paige Bueckers’ girlfriend”

Fudd also recently announced starting her podcast named “Fudd Around and Find Out,” produced with iHeartMedia and Stephen Curry’s Unanimous Media. The first episode is set to debut on Aug. 7. Bueckers hinted she might stop by as a guest.

“She might ask me. I might say yes. I might say no. We’ll see,” Bueckers said in a phone interview with CBS Sports.

On the basketball front, Paige Bueckers, who was picked first overall by the Dallas Wings, was named a starter in her first WNBA All‑Star Game. She leads all rookies in scoring (18.4 ppg), assists and steals, making history as the only rookie to start.

Beyond All‑Star honors, Bueckers earned Rookie of the Month for June after averaging 21.6 ppg.
