Paige Bueckers Is the First College Athlete To Design Nike Shoes
Bueckers signed a Name Image and Likeness (NIL) deal with Nike, a shoe and sportswear brand, in September 2023. She became the first student-athlete to design and launch her own signature basketball shoes.
Bueckers’ latest release, the Sabrina 2, is not the only shoe she has designed with the brand. Back on Dec. 7, 2024, the UConn senior guard made history after the Nike G.T. Hustle 3 Paige Bueckers Player Edition was released on SNKRS and at select retail locations.
“It’s definitely motivating to wear your own shoe,” Bueckers said. “I grew up wearing Nikes — all the signature shoes — so it’s surreal to have this Player Edition model. I just want to show out in it.”

On the right tongue, an embroidered bucket, with a with “buckets” a creative play on “Bueckers” were inscribed. Then, Bueckers’ inspirational message, which she received from her father, “Be You, Be Great,” was featured.

Bueckers’ custom shoes were designed and developed largely by women to celebrate a female basketball player. The UConn star, who is projected as the No. 1 pick for the 2025 WNBA draft, will lead the fifth-ranked Huskies to the March Madness, where she hopes to lift her first-ever NCAA championship title before heading to the pro league.
