Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark are two of the generational rookies to enter the WNBA. Both had lauded college careers and were the No.1 picks in the WNBA draft. A recent Clutch Points post compared the rookie season of the two stars, concluding Bueckers to have produced a better performance than Clark.
To bring in the comparison, the post highlighted some of the key facts that bring Caitlin and Paige close. Both WNBA stars were born on the same year and graduated high school in 2020. However, Clark was able to gain the brighter spotlight after Bueckers tore her ACL in August 2022.
Paige Bueckers is having a better rookie season than Caitlin Clark and nobody is talking about it 👀
Clark and Bueckers have been connected for years.
They’re born on the same year, both 2020 high school grads, both no.1 picks of the WNBA draft.

After Bueckers’ injury, Clark went on to win the National College Player of the Year award twice and became NCAA Division I’s All-Time leading scorer. The post further claims how since going pro, Bueckers is back to “reclaim her throne.” She is in a better pace to break records as a rookie than Clark, while already surpassing two of them within her first 20 WNBA games.
But hoops fans seem divided on that opinion. Calling out Clutch Points on this post, an enraged fan wrote:
“Delete your account, dummy. Last I checked Dallas is next to Last place.”

“Clark broke 63 records. Get a life,” another fan added.
“She’s not even close to Clark as a rookie, and she doesn’t even get full court blitzed and double teamed like Clark did,” another posted.
“But will Paige get to 400 points and 200 assists in 26 games.. that’s the question.. and he ts% is lower than Clark’s was .. cuz she’s a midrange princess.. I was told double doubles were everything last year.. Paige has had one. She disappears late in every game nearly,” one fan wrote.
“Clark broke 63 records. Get a life,” a fan tweeted.
”Caitlin got the fever to the playoffs rookie season. For the first time in how long ? … can you tell me where Dallas are?” another commented.
Though Caitlin Clark’s rookie season is one of wonders, Paige Buecker’s isn’t quite far either. As a rookie, Bueckers became the fastest WNBA player to record 350 points and 100 assists and the only guard to score in double-digits in her first 20 games. So, can Bueckers surpass Clark’s 63 broken records with her rookie season? Well, we might only get to know if the Dallas Wings star gears up for this in the second half of the season.
Paige Bueckers admitted to feeling haunted by Caitlin Clark
Both players are almost on par with their performances, with Paige Bueckers slowly climbing up the ladder to challenge Caitlin Clark’s records. However, there was one moment playing against Clark which still haunts Bueckers.
Speaking to Time‘s Sean Gregory in May this year, Bueckers admitted to feeling ‘sick’ and disheartened after losing against Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes in the 2023-24 NCAA Final Four.
“I’m still sick about that game,” Bueckers said. “The weeks after it, I just felt so disappointed, frustrated with how it ended. But then, like always, the motivation piece kicks in, where you don’t ever want to feel that feeling again.”
In that game, the Huskies came up short, losing by a narrow 71-69 margin, despite leading by 12 points at one point. However, that game also showed the world another one of Caitlin Clark’s masterclass.
From being held scoreless in the first half to finishing with 21 points in the second, Clark proved how she was there to make a statement as a player. Now, we can see that same rivalry reigniting as the two former college hoops stalwarts face each other as pros in the WNBA.
