MiLaysia Fulwiley’s decision to transfer from South Carolina to LSU was one of the biggest moves in women’s basketball this offseason. The young star had been a key rotational player on the Gamecocks for the past two seasons, but had not broken into the starting lineup except on a few occasions. As a result, Fulwiley entered the portal and transferred to LSU to play under head coach Kim Mulkey.
On Wednesday, Fulwiley sat down for a media availability. She spoke about the transition process and took a subtle shot at her former coach, Dawn Staley, when discussing her reasons for transferring.
“You know it’s been a big transition, but in my opinion, I think it’s been great for me,” MiLaysia Fulwily said. “Just growing as a person, on the court and off the court. I’m learning a lot, but I’m excited about learning, so it’s been good.”
She was then asked directly about her decision to transfer to LSU.
“I just wanted to go to a program that’s also in the SEC because I like the SEC. Also want to go to a program where I can still compete for a national championship and still play for a great coach and a coach that kind of knows what they’re doing, and I kinda trust her.”

It is not clear if Fulwily was taking a shot at Staley by saying LSU has a coach who knows what she is doing, but it is possible to interpret it that way.
MiLaysia Fulwiley Is Projected to Start for Kim Mulkey and the LSU Tigers
Through her first two college seasons, MiLaysia Fulwily only started three out of her 77 games played. That is now expected to change at LSU under head coach Kim Mulkey.
Fulwiley is expected to be the starting point guard for the Tigers. She will join a star-studded starting lineup that is projected to include Flau’Jae Johnson, Mikaylah Williams, Grace Knox, and Kote Koval. The Tigers are expected to compete for a national championship this season.
