All You Need To Know About Makayla Timpson’s Parents

Makayla Timpson, born in Edison, Georgia, on September 20, 2002, grew up in a tight-knit community with her parents, Rena and Eric. Rena is a graduate of Calhoun County High School and Albany Technical College, worked at Brooks Dental Associates, and still calls Edison home. Eric is a pastor at Covenant Word Ministries.

“My parents have come to every basketball game there has been,” Makayla told Early County News. “My dad coached me out in the yard and rode the bicycle while I ran a mile around the block.”

Makayla’s senior season with the Seminoles, as of April 3, 2025, gave us a glimpse of her dominance. She’s played 131 games, starting 101, and racked up 1,706 points, 1,094 rebounds, and 290 blocks. Her career-high 38 points against Samford on December 14, 2024, tied for the third-highest single-game total in Florida State history.

She also set program records for career rebounds and double-doubles, with 46. Her 103 blocks this season broke another Seminole record, and she led Power Four players with 3.12 blocks per game.

Timpson has been named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference First Team and All-ACC Defensive Team. She also earned a spot on the Naismith Trophy Watch List and was a Katrina McClain Top Five finalist. As a Naismith Defensive Player of the Year semifinalist and Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-American finalist, she’s cemented her reputation as a two-way force. Her 350 rebounds this season set an Florida State record, and she owns the top two single-season rebounding marks in program history.

Makayla’s high school days at Early County laid the groundwork. As a junior, she averaged 22.7 points and 10.8 rebounds, shooting 54 percent. That promise has carried her to the cusp of the WNBA, with the 2025 draft looming on April 14. Scouts see her as a top prospect.

Rena and Eric’s American roots in rural Georgia shaped their hands-on approach. They didn’t just watch Makayla grow, they built her work ethic. Eric’s mile runs and Rena’s presence at every tip-off gave Makayla a sense of purpose. Their faith, evident in Eric’s ministry, grounded her through the grind of college ball.
