SPOTTED: LSU Transfer MiLaysia Fulwiley Meets Ex South Carolina Teammate During Unrivaled All Star Training Camp

The Unrivaled All-Star Summit in Miami brought together several college stars, including LSU transfer MiLaysia Fulwiley and her former South Carolina teammate Ta’Niya Latson, under the same roof.

On Friday, the official Instagram page of Unrivaled Basketball League posted multiple photos, capturing the union of several women’s college basketball stars, who are in their offseason, while the professionals are currently in the middle of their WNBA seasons.

In one photo, Fulwiley can be seen posing with Latson side by side on a basketball court. The two pointed signs at each other in admiration.

“Only Good Vibes Here in Miami 💜🩵” the post was captioned.

The summit captured the presence of several other college stars, including Hannah Hidalgo, Madison Booker, Audi Crooks, Olivia Miles, Azzi Fudd, Flau’jae Johnson and Lauren Betts.

Earlier this year, MiLaysia Fulwiley entered the transfer portal in April to join the LSU Tigers, where she will play under head coach Kim Mulkey. In South Carolina, she averaged 11.7 points per game off the bench, earned SEC Sixth Player of the Year and was named SEC Tournament MVP.

Meanwhile, Ta’Niya Latson entered the transfer portal in March and transferred to South Carolina from Florida State. Last season, she averaged 25.2 ppg, 4.6 apg and 4.6 rpg.

Ta’Niya Latson’s arrival prompted MiLaysia Fulwiley’s exit from South Carolina

The South Carolina Gamecocks saw major changes to their roster following an appearance in the national championship game last season. The team added Ta’Niya Latson in March. One month later, MiLaysia Fulwiley was on her way out.

Despite being a productive scorer, head coach Dawn Staley only started Fulwiley in three of 77 games at South Carolina and averaged under 19 minutes per night. The lack of opportunity for a larger role and the threat of another productive scorer joining the squad led to her transfer to LSU.

Staley respects Fulwiley’s decision to transfer, stating that sometimes a change of scenery is necessary for growth. During the “The Breakfast Club” show in May this year, she said:

“Surprising? No. I think, being in this space, you become (sic) to expect the unexpected, right? I still have much love for MiLaysia. Like, much love. Like, I want her happy.”

“I think she’s going to have a promising career. I do think she’s a generational talent. That will never leave. She does things on the basketball court that I’ve never seen a woman do. And she’ll continue to do that, and we’ll continue to be happy for her, except for the one or two times we have to play them,” she added.

At LSU, MiLaysia Fulwiley is expecting a starting role and LSU coach Kim Mulkey might be open to that thought.
