Angel Reese has repeatedly claimed that she is one of the reasons why the WNBA has seen such a meteoric rise. Off the court, Reese is a total star. She has a huge social media following, brand deals, and a strong presence. On the court, however, Reese has failed to do anything that can match her claims.
Despite that, she has been praised by the media for taking the game forward. A lot of people believe Angel Reese is the future. But Jason Whitlock isn’t buying any of it. And this has been the case since the beginning of her journey.
On a recent episode of Fearless, Whitlock berated Reese for missing out on action as the team slowly descended to the bottom of the table. Whitlock believes that Reese has no interest in saving her team and is more interested in protecting her brand.
“This woman has disappeared,” Whitlock said. “They’re getting their brains beat out. It’s clear as day. I don’t think she’s looking to get traded. I just think she is protecting her brand and doesn’t want these Ls on her resume.” (1:39)
Whitlock scoffed at Reese’s claim that she is a winner. A winner would never ghost their team without explanation or reasoning. He outlined how she didn’t finish her rookie season, citing an injury. She did the same thing with Unrivaled, and the story is repeating itself in the current season, too.
Reese has missed six straight games due to a back injury, and there’s still no timeline on her return. Meanwhile, the Sky have lost nine of their last 10 games. They have won 5 of 12 at home and 3 of 13 away games.
With just eight wins and 25 losses, they are the second-worst team in the league right now. Whitlock believes that a failed season like this wouldn’t look good on someone who claims to be one of the best in the league, and that is why she has now resorted to ducking games.
Tyler Marsh recently gave an update on Angel Reese’s recovery
At the end of the day, everything Jason Whitlock said can best be described as speculation. No one outside of the Sky camp truly knows what’s going on with Reese and why she is not lacing up for the Chicago Sky.
On Aug. 15, head coach of the Chicago franchise, Tyler Marsh, was asked about the possibility of Reese’s return to the floor.
“She’s been progressing each day, doing more and more on court stuff. So, I don’t think we’re too far away, but she is progressing pretty well.”
While this could be taken as a positive sign by the Sky fans, Marsh revealed that she is not yet practicing with the team.
“She has not practiced with us yet but she’s present, she’s doing workouts and stuff like that. So, she is maintaining.”
Per coach Tyler Marsh: Angel Reese is making progress, but she still hasn’t returned to team practices yet. @Winsidr

It’s tough to guess the timeline of Reese’s return from Marsh’s comment. Even if she’s making good progress, if she is not yet practicing with the team, her return isn’t going to be possible in the near future.
