Geno Auriemma Gets Jokingly Labeled ‘Obnoxious’ by UConn Star While Using 3 Words To Describe Head Coach

UConn Huskies head coach Geno Auriemma is arguably the greatest women’s college basketball coach of all time. Since taking over the program in 1985, he has led the Huskies to 12 national championships across many cycles of recruits. This past season, the Huskies won the national championship, ending a nine-year championship drought.

On Monday, Huskies star KK Arnold appeared on “The Dinner Table” podcast. On the show, she was asked to describe Auriemma in three words. She had some interesting picks.

“Crazy, loving, and obnoxious, in a good way,” KK Arnold said (26:00).

Arnold was then asked if Auriemma ever raises his voice, despite having a reputation for being calm in the media.

“He does, he does, and with him he knows what buttons to push. So like it’s just so crazy, you don’t think he’ll know, but he knows our tendencies very well so he’ll say something and we’ll be like, ‘Dang, that kinda hit. Kinda hit really hard.’ But like, he knows how to get us going, how to push us. But like I said, people see the hardcore, him facing down the sideline, but he’s really like a great loving guy,” she said.

KK Arnold is coming off her second season with the Huskies. Her role was reduced from her freshman year. In 40 games, she did not start and saw her minutes reduced from 30.3 per game as a freshman to 21.2 as a sophomore. As a result, her stats dropped to 5.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

KK Arnold Speaks About Geno Auriemma Giving Her an Expanded Role at UConn

While KK Arnold had a smaller role on the Huskies this past season, that is not likely to be the case in her junior year. In June, she spoke about having different roles in her first two seasons and how that will continue in year three. She is expecting to have a bigger role on the Huskies this season and that head coach Geno Auriemma is trusting her with more responsibility.

“I’ve had different roles the past two years,” KK Arnold said. “So I’m coming in this year knowing the type of voice I have, knowing the underclassmen we have, knowing the ropes, knowing what we want, knowing what Coach wants, what we want as a team and how we need to go about things.”
