Flau’jae Johnson Goes Viral For Emotional Tribute Post
As star LSU Tigers guard Flau’jae Johnson writes about her mother, “Remember when it was just you and me back in Savannah? My mama… she always saw something in me, even when I couldn’t see it in myself, even when we had nothing.
She continued, “A light, a purpose like I was meant for more. Her belief in me? That’s what kept me going. That’s what I carry with me, every time I step on that court, every time I chase this dream. She is my why. Always has been.”

Even before basketball and making music became potential career paths for Johnson, her mother, Lakia, has supported her in her endeavors. Lakia currently serves as Flau’jae’s manager, securing major NIL deals for her.
In an interview on the Ebro in the Morning show on Hot 97 radio, Flau’jae explained the extent of her mother’s support.
“It was me and my mom. She started everything, built everything [and] she still handles everything. She built it [from] the ground up. If it wasn’t for my mom, I wouldn’t be in this position. When I went on the rap game, she quit her job so that she was able to be there for me on that,” Johnson explained.
Lakia has dedicated her whole life to her daughter’s progress, and it has paid off. Flau’jae is successfully combining her music and basketball careers seamlessly.

Flau’jae’s tribute has left several fans in their feelings. One commenter responded, “Straight to the Heart- Flau,” acknowledging how much Johnson’s mother meant to her.
Another commented, “We forever [sic] thankful for Mama Kia.”
A third responded, “We give thanks for our wonderful mothers, the ones who see greatness in us even when we can’t see it ourselves. On our worst days, they show up with strength, love, and unwavering faith. There is nothing like the blessing of a strong Black mother.”
As Johnson prepares for her senior year in Baton Rouge, Kmi Mulkey’s Tiger squad looks to reload instead of rebuild. They made the Elite Eight before falling to UCLA, so if Johnson can play like she did last year, we can expect a similar result.
