Angel Reese’s Former Teammate Flau’jae Johnson Gets Real On Caitlin Clark

LSU Tigers guard Flau’jae Johnson recently spoke about Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark, who happens to be her former teammate, Angel Reese’s rival. Back in her college basketball days, now Chicago Sky stalwart Angel Reese had many intense games against Clark, especially in the 2023 and 2024 national tournaments, through which the WNBA sophomore was backed by the likes of Johnson.

In an episode of the “Club Shay Shay” podcast by NFL legend Shannon Sharpe on Wednesday, July 16, and since posted by user @Sudharsan_AK10 on X/Twitter, Sharpe asked Johnson about her overall thoughts on Clark, who shared many battles with her former LSU teammate Angel Reese, and still to this day in the WNBA.

“Yeah, I do. I have respect for Caitlin because she is like the biggest doing it like, you know what I’m saying? When somebody like that in your field, you got to study them like you know what I’m saying? You got to see why are you like that? Like what are your habits? And you know, we end up being competitors but, you know, she was cool and I asked her questions and she’d be like, ‘Yeah, this is why I do this.’ This is how I work like, you know what I’m saying? Johnson shared. (0:06)

“So, she real genuine. But I, like I told you, I like to learn from everybody. She got the, so I’m like, you know, like how your feet do that?,” she concluded while emulating Clark’s jump shot.

In the 2024-25 season, Johnson led the Tigers to a 31-6 overall record (12-4, SEC) and were eliminated by the UCLA Bruins by seven points, 72-65, in the Elite Eight of this year’s NCAA tournament. Johnson and Co. were looking to win their second national title after winning it all back in 2023.

Flau’jae Johnson Asserts That It’ll Be A Team Effort Next Year And Not a Caitlin Clark-like Show

Later on with her interview on the Club Shay Shay podcast, Flau’jae Johnson admitted that there has been some influence from Caitlin Clark in regards to her settling for more three-point attempts in her game. When Shannon Sharpe then asked if her coach in Kim Mulkey, will be alright with that, Johnson re-asserted that the 2025-26 LSU Tigers will still be a total team effort rather than an individual outing.

“Oh, I ain’t gonna let it go crazy ’cause I got, you know what I’m saying? No, not like that I ain’t going Caitlin Clark. I ain’t shooting a hundred game but like, you know, I got some dogs with me. So, now like I could create for them, like I wanna show people I could create. You know, I got Mikayla Williams, got MiLaysia Fulwiley. You talk about the game called transfer portal, you know what I’m saying?,” Johnson said. (1:03)

“I got some dogs on the court with me, Kate Koval in the post. We got some freshmen coming, so I got some dogs. So, it ain’t a me show. That’s what I don’t want people to get that misconstrued like I’m gonna win a national championship. You know what I’m saying? Like, I wanna win. So, I’m trying to do whatever,” she added.

Johnson now heads into next season for her fourth year of collegiate hoops under the tutelage of coach Mulkey as she looks to win her second-ever national championship.
