Caitlin Clark has been a polarizing figure in women’s basketball over the last few years. While Clark’s contribution to uplifting the sport, particularly the WNBA, is undeniable, she faces a lot of flak from fans and the media. The WNBA fanbase is so divided on CC that even the people who side with her end up catching some heat.
Flau’jae Johnson recently made headlines after she discarded A’ja Wilson’s claim that she could beat an NBA player 1-on-1. During an appearance on Club Shay Shay, she was asked if she believes a WNBA player could beat an NBA player. Johnson said:
“I just don’t… it’s not physically possible. You know what I’m saying? Like, I could barely grab rim—you’re talking about over the backboard. But, like, no NBA player… no.”
Can a WNBA player beat a NBA player?

Johnson pointed out the obvious physical disadvantage that female players would be faced with, but her statement got blown out of proportion. The LSU star later took to X to respond to the trolls. She wrote:
“This is what yall mad about bruh ?? My opinion? I never spoke on the goat A’ja, I just gave MY OPINION. Yall just want a reason to hate me at this point man🤦♀️ im so over sm.”

One fan responded to her post, stating that people are only mad because she supports the Indiana Fever star.
“They only coming at you because you are cool with Caitlin. It has nothing to do with your correct opinion.” The fan WROTE.
Hundreds of other fans agreed with Johnson’s take. Another fan replied:
“You are objectively correct. There’s no way any of them can beat an NBA player.”
One fan used Serena Williams’ example to show support for Johnson.
“This is the same “weak” argument they have with Serina Williams. Serena even said she couldn’t beat a man straight up! Stand on your square and it’s YOUR opinion. So much weakness these days!” The fan WROTE.
Even though fans can continue to make arguments for either side, the odds are in favor of an NBA player beating a WNBA player comfortably. However, Wilson believes she can beat Knicks forward Josh Hart with ease.
A’ja Wilson claimed she could beat Josh Hart in a 1-on-1
In November last year, Wilson made an appearance on The Roommates Show, where she made that now-controversial comment. While speaking to Hart and the Roommates Show panel, she comfortably stated that she would defeat the Knicks star. She said:
“It] would be like 8 to 11, me. I get ball first? Yeah, you’re not going to get it back… I’m not saying you’re going to go scoreless, but 8 to 11 I feel like is pretty solid. So what do you think you’ll be, Josh? Don’t piss me off.”
Hart initially laughed it off, but ended up making a strong case for himself. He told Wilson that the score would be 11-2 in his favor. He then changed it to 11-7, but kept the W for himself.

Despite his claims, Wilson didn’t budge and continued to say that the score would be 8-11, with Hart taking the loss. Like most basketball debates, it’s interesting to argue, but no conclusion can be reached until they step on the floor together.
