Spelling is perhaps Paige Bueckers’ weakest suit, despite her reputation as a smooth jumper and one with exceptional court vision. The former UConn and current Dallas Wings star was asked to spell the word ‘mischievous’ in a hilarious video shared by WNBA Got Game’s Instagram handle on Sunday.
Bueckers confidently flipped the board after writing down her response. Despite the confidence, she was completely wrong. She blamed “autocorrect” as the reason she got the spelling of the word wrong, which drew laughs from her teammates. The video quickly gained attention and thousands of views.

The fans didn’t let it go unnoticed either, as it became a roast session on social media. Fans poked fun at Bueckers and UConn, her alma mater.
“Not a great week for UConn education 😂,” one fan said.
“A Paige out of UConn 😅,” another joked.
“Autocorrect with your hand is crazy fr 😂😂😭😭,” a user wrote.
“UConn and ND education… 😭😭😭,” someone else added.
“LAWD! …and just graduated?! 😂,” another person reacted.
“Paigey it’s never too late to go back to school 😂,” one user teased.
Although they were making fun of Bueckers, it was clear the fans were just having a good time in the comments section.
Thankfully for fans, Paige won’t be entering a spelling bee; she is playing well with the Dallas Wings. In her rookie season, she has already adapted her play to match the tempo and intensity of the WNBA. Her playmaking and shooting abilities have helped the team start to gather momentum.
Despite Spelling Slip, Paige Bueckers has Shown Bright Spots in Dallas Debut
From no-look passes to blocking mid-range jumpers, Paige has been averaging 18.1 points for the Wings. The rookie is leading her team in scoring, although they are in last place in the West. The Wings are still a young team and have yet to get a completely healthy Bueckers. She has missed five games this year, which has contributed to the team’s struggles.
Although she’s still getting a hold of the league, it is clear that Paige is adapting to the WNBA at a rapid rate. Her confidence and basketball IQ have been evident in the limited time that she has played. Leading a team in your first professional season is no easy task. Analysts and fans are both keeping a close eye on her progress. Dallas might have landed a franchise cornerstone if her upward trend continues, but only time will tell. One thing is for sure: they have not found their next spelling bee champion.
