A’ja Wilson is already one of the greatest WNBA players ever. Since her debut in 2018, Dawn Staley’s former player showed why she was so highly rated from her college career. In 6 years for Las Vegas Aces, Wilson has won 3 WNBA titles with 3 MVP awards in the same years as she was crowned champion. She has also won Defensive Player of the Year twice back to back in 2022 and 2023. A’ja once again won the DPOY but probably not how she would have preferred to.
With 2025 DPOY, WNBA did something for the first time in their history. For the first time in basketball, A’ja Wilson and Minnesota Lynx’s Alanna Smith shared the DPOY making them “co-DPOY” for the season. A lot of people questioned this, and A’ja’s boyfriend Bam Adebayo was one of them.

Miami Heat’s Adebayo took to Threads and used A’ja’s snap from a press conference with the Aces. “Can somebody explain Co to me right now…?!?”, He posted in utter confusion.
Another NBA star who showed astonishment with a hint of sarcasm was Warriors legend Draymond Green. Replying to Adebayo, Green said while laughing, “feels intentional.” Clearly both Draymond and Bam felt A’ja was hard done by as she was not the sole winner of the award.

Wilson led the league with 2.3 blocks per game. She averaged 10.2 rebounds. She had a total of 156 combined blocks and steals(stocks) which was another stat she was a leader in. Alanna Smith, on the other hand, ranked 3rd with 1.9 blocks per game and averaged 5.2 rebounds. She ended up with 135 stocks. Statistically A’ja has an undeniable advantage over Alanna. Moreover, both players have led their respective teams to the second round of the WNBA playoffs.

Most fans agreed with Bam and Draymond. The co-DPOY from WNBA did not make sense to a lot of fans.
“Righttt I need a explanation immediately because the stats ain’t matching for it to be a damn co award”, one fan replied to Bam and compared the stats.
“Bam said stop playing with his woman”, another said.
“Aja will Win co-mvp watch just because they want phee to win”, another fan claimed.
“Because this would never happen in the NBA”, one user said.
