Barely two weeks after winning the national championship, Paige Bueckers is now officially the number one pick in the 2025 WNBA draft. Bueckers was selected by the Dallas Wings, and she will now play for the team that finished the just-concluded WNBA season with a 9-31 record.
Bueckers will now join a locker room that already includes WNBA stars such as All-Star MVP Arike Ogunbowale, Djonai Carrington, and Nalyssa Smith. She’ll also play with fellow draftees Madison Scott and Aziaha James.
Dallas Wings Players React to Team Drafting Paige Bueckers First Overall
Before the conclusion of the college basketball season, Paige Bueckers was already projected to be the consensus top pick, and as soon as the lottery confirmed Dallas to own the first pick, players started throwing not-so-subtle hints about potentially playing with Bueckers.
Players such as Arike Ogunbowale and Djonai Carrington were seen showing love and support to the Bueckers on their social media. Carrington commented on Bueckers’ Instagram after Connecticut’s championship win.
One player who never hid her desire to play with Bueckers was Ogunbowale. Earlier this year, rumors came out about Bueckers not wanting to play for Dallas, but the moment she declared for the draft, Ogunbowale took to social media to clap back at the rumor mongers.

On April 7, she also made a tweet on X, egging the Dallas Wings not to pass on Bueckers.

She also made posts on her Instagram and X accounts the moment Bueckers got drafted on Monday night.

Ogunbowale and Bueckers could become one of the better backcourt duos in the WNBA. The Connecticut guard averaged 19.8 points on 53.1% shooting, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in her four-year college playing career.
