Former LSU Tigers standout and current Houston Cougars guard Kateri Poole recently backed up her former teammate Angel Reese to vie for this year’s POY award. On Friday August 1, Poole reposted @chichagosky on Instagram’s post, showcasing Reese’s stats for the month of July wherein she averaged 17.9 points, 12.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists throughout July, naming her as the player of the month for the WNBA.
Reese is currently in her second year in the WNBA for Coach Tyler Marsh Sky team, and is steadily becoming a star in the league. With this, several from the women’s basketball world such as her former running mate in Poole is giving her all-out support on Reese, who has an estimated net worth of $1.7 million per Yahoo Sports, potentially even being named to the regular season MVP award this year.
“If anyone else gets POY, I know something,” Poole captioned on her story.

Currently, Reese is tallying 14.2 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.5 steals per contest, and has led Chicago to record of 7-20 and is sitting as the fifth seed in the East thus far. With this, Reese is one of the true up-and-coming stars in the WNBA, and is looking to go father.
Contrary to Poole’s claims, however, per Fansided, Reese is not in the top five of the power rankings for the regular season MVP award of the 2025 WNBA campaign. Nevertheless, the Sky also has a below .500 record so far, which may further derail the 2023 NCAA MOP’s chances of this year’s MVP award.
For Poole’s side, she will enter the 2025-26 college basketball season for her fifth and final year of collegiate hoops with the Houston Cougars. Poole spent her first two years with the Ohio State Buckeyes, and then the last two campaigns for coach Kim Mulkey’s LSU Tigers. However, for her likely last stint, Poole opted to transfer to the Cougars, after sitting out the 2024-25 campaign.
Poole will be joining coach Matthew Mitchell’s Houston squad that finished the 2024-25 season with an overall record of 5-25 (1-17, Big 12) as she posted averages of 2.0 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists in the 2023-24 campaign.

Perhaps for a friendship that runs deep, Kateri Poole and Angel Reese’s shining moment as teammates was when they won the 2023 NCAA title for the LSU Tigers, which was the first in the program’s history. They defeated then-coach Lisa Bluder’s Iowa Hawkeyes by 17 points, 102-85, through which Reese was named the MOP and was selected with the seventh overall pick in the draft later that year.
