‘We Miss Her’: UConn’s Caroline Ducharme Pours Her Heart Out for Ex Teammate Paige Bueckers

UConn Huskies senior Caroline Ducharme has been focused on preparing for her final season of collegiate basketball. On Thursday, July 3, @uconnhuskies on Instagram uploaded a video about Ducharme, wherein the returning player was vlogging a practice session of her team as they had plans of watching their former star teammate in Paige Bueckers who had a WNBA game later that day.

In one segment of the vlog, Ducharme spoke about Bueckers, and how she was always there for her from the start of her collegiate hoops career. Now, Ducharme is heading into her last stint with the Huskies, but this time without Bueckers who has since become a standout rookie for the Dallas Wings.

“I was teammates with Paige for four years so my freshman year all the way up to last year, she was a sophomore. It’s really cool to see like her at this level. I mean, we’ve been friends since high school. So, to be able to see like all the success she’s having, there’s nobody more deserving. So, we’re just glad, like, we can come, we can support her, we can watch her. So, we’re so proud of her, but we miss her,” Ducharme shared. (3:45)

Later on in the vlog, Ducharme and members of the UConn squad went on to congratulate Bueckers on the court as she and the Wings went on to win against the Connecticut Sun by three points, 86-83.

The past two seasons for Carolina Ducharme have been riddled with head and neck injuries, which has limited her to play games with the UConn Huskies. This is why Ducharme decided to redshirt her junior year and will now officially play out her final season of collegiate hoops in the 2024-25 campaign. Speaking about her current state of mind and physical condition, Ducharme is feeling confident about herself.

“It’s been very up and down the last couple of years. I was out for basically two years of concussions. So, this year is the healthiest I’ve been, the healthiest I’ve felt, so I’m really excited to kind of see where that takes me and just continue to improve every day. I definitely didn’t think I would ever get back to this point, so I’m just trying to continue to improve and continue to get better,” she said. (0:18)

In her four official stints of college basketball with coach Geno Auriemma’s Huskies, Ducharme has averaged 7.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists per contest. Ducharme was also a part of the 2024-25 Huskies squad that won the 2025 NCAA championship.
