Azzi Fudd will enter her redshirt senior year with the UConn Huskies in the upcoming season. After struggling all her collegiate career with injuries, Fudd finally played a healthy season with the Huskies and averaged 13.3 points, 1.6 assists, and 2.2 rebounds in 34 games in the 2024-25 season. Geno Auriemma and UConn won their record 12th national championship.
With Paige Bueckers now in the WNBA, Fudd is the natural leader for the Huskies going into the next season. The program would certainly miss their star player. However, Fudd recently made a bold prediction for the Huskies ahead of the 2025-26 season.
In a recent interview, Azzi talked about their NCAA title-winning year and also the upcoming season. She said:
“This team is super special. Since I’ve been here, we’ve never had this many people available and this much talent.”
“We’ve learned that it can be taken from you at any second,” she continued. “We’ve had teams that started healthy, teams that started not healthy and it’s gone up and down regardless of that. We’ve been through it all. We know what to expect if something happens now and we know that we can handle anything, so we’re just enjoying what we have now.”
Fudd also shared Geno Auriemma’s message for his squad heading into the season. Fudd laughed and said:
“It depends on the day. Yesterday it was all about communicating and listening…making sure the only voices that matter are the ones in the gym.”
Azzi Fudd Talks About UConn Huskies’ Chemistry
In the same interview, Azzi Fudd said she is very much aware of the importance of chemistry between players for UConn’s success.
“There’s only so much playing time and only one basketball,” Fudd said. “Making sure that we stay together through it all and, like coach said, that we don’t let the outside voices come in…As long as we’re on the same page and we keep working and growing together every single day, our chemistry and what we can build can be really special.”
