“Want To Beat Them By A Thousand Points”: Analyst Makes Feelings Known On Geno Auriemma’s UConn’s Preseason Fixture vs Iconic Rival

Head coach Geno Auriemma and the UConn Huskies are accustomed to winning national championships and playing in big postseason games. However, that does not mean that they do not take all of their games seriously, even when they are just exhibition matches.

Earlier this offseason, the Huskies’ non-conference schedule was revealed, including a few exhibition matchups in the preseason. One of those matchups is against Boston College on October 13. The two teams had a long rivalry, although they have not played a game in two decades since they are no longer in the same conference. UConn has come out on top for the most part with a 32-7 record. Despite that, games against the Eagles are a big deal for the Huskies.

On Friday, a new episode of “The Hoops Cap” podcast was released on the “Big East Energy Network” YouTube channel. On the show, analyst Mark Zanetto spoke about the importance of the Boston College matchup for Geno Auriemma and the UConn Huskies.

“I’m also interested in one of the exhibitions, Boston College at Mohegan Sun Hall of Fame, like duel with the men, duel situation where they play and the men play both Boston College,” Mark Zanetto said (3:50). “There’s no love lost between UConn athletics and Boston College athletics. So, to me, even though that’s an exhibition game, that’s kind of like a you circle that one. It’s like I want to beat them by like a thousand points.”

Analyst Tee Baker Wishes This Matchup Between Geno Auriemma’s UConn Squad Against Boston College Was in the Regular Season

After Mark Zanetto made his comments, analyst Tee Baker chimed in, saying he wished that this matchup were in the regular season. The teams are historic rivals, having played 39 times, dating back to the 80s. However, they have not played since 2005 because of conference realignment.

“Interesting rivalry, my frame of reference is (Boston College) used to be the Big East competing against UConn,” Tee Baker said (4:35). “Then the ACC drama, it sounds like ACC picked Boston College at that time, so there’s some of that conference realignment fire. Also Boston College is a team that’s improving in the ACC. I’m excited to see that exhibition game. I wish it was a regular season game. I was surprised to see it as an exhibition.”

Fans who were hoping to see these two teams play in the regular season will need to wait for another year.
