2025 WNBA Draft Trade Rumors: Why the Seattle Storm Should Seek Sensational Trade for Sun Sniper Marina Mabrey

The WNBA world was set ablaze when former Seattle Storm star Jewell Loyd was sent to the Las Vegas Aces in a blockbuster three-team trade that included the Los Angeles Sparks.

Loyd was not happy with her situation in Seattle and wanted out. In return for the star guard, the Storm got big Li Yueru from the Sparks and the number two pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft.

Why The Seattle Storm Could Trade The Number Two Pick In The 2025 WNBA Draft

This pick was slotted for the Storm to take Notre Dame star Olivia Miles. She would have slid beautifully into the shooting guard position formerly occupied by Loyd, and alongside star Skylar Diggins-Smith, that team would be right back in championship contention.

With Miles deciding to forgo the 2025 draft, the Storm are left with a hole at the shooting guard position, but their roster is ready to win now.

The number two pick of this year’s draft is a great trade asset to acquire the Storm, a win-now-ready guard to pair with Diggins-Smith in the backcourt. One team has the perfect player for the Seattle Storm: the Connecticut Sun.

The Sun has blown up their roster. They let DeWanna Bonner and Brionna Jones walk in free agency, traded stars Alyssa Thomas and DiJonai Carrington, and fired head coach Stephanie White.

They are in a complete rebuilding phase, but last year, at the trade deadline, they traded for former Notre Dame sniper Marina Mabrey to give them an added boost for their playoff run.

With the Sun looking to rebuild completely, Mabrey is the odd woman out from last year’s championship-caliber squad. She has asked for a trade, and Seattle would be the perfect spot for her.

With both teams having assets that the other wants, this trade would be perfect for both, and it’s pretty simple.

The Connecticut Sun would send Marina Mabrey and a 2027th 2nd Round Pick to the Seattle Storm for the No. 2 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft and guard Nika Muhl.

For the Sun, they get a young prospect in Nika Muhl, who played her collegiate career at UConn. They also would get the 2nd pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft to get a centerpiece to start building their future.

The Storm would get a great shooter, a good scorer, and a plus defender in Marina Mabrey to pair with Skylar Diggins-Smith in the backcourt.
