Gabby Williams is excited for her new adventure after signing with the Golden State Valkyries in free agency. The Valkyries announced on Sunday that they have added one of the most coveted names on the free-agent market.
The signing was first reported by ESPN’s Andraya Carter and marks a significant addition to the Valkyries’ pipeline. Carter also added that Williams is the first player with deep Bay Area ties to sign with the organization.
Williams has a lot to be excited about as she begins a new chapter in Golden State.
“We back baby,” she commented on Instagram.

In the same enthusiasm, she shared multiple posts across her Instagram story.
Gabby’s new teammate, Veronica Burton, was also excited and commented,
“Let’s gooooooo!!!”

Despite being an expansion team, the Valkyries have become a team that players desire and aspire to be a part of. In their debut season, they made history by becoming the first expansion team to reach the playoffs and are built to continue competing for more success in the foreseeable future.
It’s an incredible development for Golden State, who have already retained Kate Martin and Veronica Burton as part of their core. With Gabby Williams’ signing, the Valkyries have set the bar high for themselves.
Gabby Williams receives high praise from Valkyries GM
Valkyries GM Ohemaa Nyanin was full of admiration for new signing Gabby Williams after the announcement.
“She is an All-Star and one of the strongest defensive players in this league,” Nyanin. “She has deep Bay Area connections and a real tie to this community. I know the Bay will welcome her home with open arms, and she is going to impact this franchise in all the best ways.”
Given how solid a player Williams is, it makes sense that Nyanin views the Valkyries signing her as one of the top WNBA moves of the summer. The 29-year-old’s strong defensive play and ability to produce on offense could make her a strong addition for the Valkyries.
The former Seattle forward is coming off a career-high season, where she averaged 11.6 points and 4.2 assists and led the league in steals with 2.3 per game. She also earned her first All-Star appearance last season, along with All-Defensive First Team honors.
Now, it will be fun to see how much of an impact Williams makes with the Valkyries. She is expected to play alongside Kate Martin and Veronica Burton, so it’s possible we could see her reach a new level overall.
