Congressman Brandon Gill’s wife, Danielle D’Souza Gill, showed appreciation for WNBA star Sophie Cunningham on X, citing the guard’s patriotism for the country.
On Friday, Cunningham reshared a tweet from Gill on her Instagram story. The tweet complimented the Indiana Fever guard’s view of the country. The statement comes at a time when the United States and Israel’s conflict with Iran has entered its third week, highlighting a sensitive geopolitical climate.
“Basketball star Sophie Cunningham has refused to bash America, instead thanking our veterans,” Gill wrote of Cunningham. “‘Home of the free because of the brave … Thank you to all those who fought and are still fighting,’ God bless you, Sophie!”
Gill, a conservative commentator, also shared Cunningham’s quote on her Instagram account in a separate post.

Cunningham averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game for the Indiana Fever last season, shooting 46.9%, including 43.2% from 3-point range. She was limited to 30 games, last playing in August 2025 before tearing her MCL and missing the remainder of the season.
Cunningham quickly became a fan-favorite and a valuable part of the Fever’s rotation next to Caitlin Clark last season. Entering the 2026 season, she will be an unrestricted free agent.
Sophie Cunningham slams the WNBA for their handling of CBA negotiations
The WNBA and WNBPA have held multiple meetings this week as both sides look to reach common ground on a new CBA. However, negotiations have been ongoing for months and repeated delays have led to much criticism for the league.
Among those raising their voice against the league’s approach was Sophie Cunningham, who criticized their slow pace on her “Show me Something” podcast.
“This is a successful business. Why is the W not learning and leaning on people who are already building that type? … Our negotiation and all that, how that’s going, it’s like we’re the laughing stock of sports right now. That is so f***ing typical.”
Cunningham also criticized league commissioner Cathy Engelbert, calling her a “delusional” leader. She continued, expressing her belief that the league’s team ownership is player-sided on one end and more business-minded on the other.
